Racecar Project - Updated Picture
I picked up my chassis from the powder coater last thursday so it is...well...white. Next step is to fit the body panels and paint the exterior. I also picked up a 95 993 engine with 20k on it and am beginning disassembly and will be selling the crank, rods, oil pump, P&C, intake, and possibly the heads.

It looks very nice. I've done a MG restore a few years ago and I still remember the empy chassis was nice to look at.
You powdercoated the chassis. What are the advantages and disadvantages of powder coating ?

Peter,
I had the chassis acid dipped to remove the seam sealer and under coating so the chassis could be seam welded. When doing this, it removes eveything everywhere including inside the frame rails. I felt that the powdercoat process would be able to better cover areas the could not be reached using normal paint tools. In addition, the powdercoat is much harder/stronger than paint and should last longer and resist chips better. We'll see how well it works. The exterior of the chassis will be painted.

Everything is powdercoated except the roof/qtr panels which just have overspray on them. Inside the rails, inside the A, B, C pillars, everything is coated. This is why I chose that process.
"Lust has set in."
I guess I shouldn't mention I purchased a core 993 engine (20k on it) and am stripping it this week. Ordered my new GT3RSR crankshaft and am getting ready to decide what to do for P&C and heads.

I know you might not want to do this for emotional issues... but can you keep track of the costs associated to this project and share them with us?? I would love to know what is the cost of stripping and powdercoating one of our cars... roll cage, etc...

Hey Geoffrey
Its Ok , I can take it . A, B and C plus GT3RSR ! Baa Humbug !!!
How much for your old nasty 993 crank ?
If ya switch out the crank on a 964 for a 993 do you need the 993 rods as well ?

If you use a 993 crankshaft, then you need 993 sized rods. The 3.2, 3.3, and 964 cranks all use the same rod.
I'm looking for $1300 for the 993 crank and rods.
I have been keeping detailed costs as I need to contain this project to $60k. So far with what I've spent and what I'm estimating yet to spend, I'm at $57k. This includes approximately 15k in MoTeC equipement.
