Whilst i know that this may be better posted in one of the other areas it seems that a large number of people from the UK are active on this forum. I have seen on ebay the chance to have my car given the Zymol treatment by a professional who is also listed on the zdouk website.

My questions therefore are -

Is is better to have a professional carry out the treatment or is it more rewarding to do it yourself to your own standards and at your own pace?

and

Has anybody used D.B.V. PROFESSIONAL VEHICLE PREPARATION in Stourbridge, West Midlands previously, if so how good was the service.

The reason for posting this is not for cost reasons as i am sure the deal is a good one. I personally am unsure of the products better suited to my car and the process of application and my own skill levels.

Dave - if you read this i hope you'll understand that i am just being over careful as the car is my pride and joy.

I've tried the decent Zymol myself and never really got the result everyone else seems to suggest I should - although I've also used the £10 bottles you can get from Halfords and that's the best stuff I've used.

I've always been tempted to get it professionally done because I suspect that it is me that's the limiting factor and not the wax. But I can't bring myself to spend £100+ to get my car waxed!

There was an article in 911 & PW about this a while back where Phil Raby had his car professionally done. The entire process took a good few hours for them to do (most of the day if I recall) and involved a full range of things from 'claying' down the car after a full wash to get all traces of dirt off the car before the application of the wax itself.

The results were outstanding judging by the pictures before and after. It may cost a fair amount to do but the results are supposed to last a fair while.

Do it yourself, I always do.....there we go that's another saving........ ;-P

Oh, and to do the Lehm Klay etc will take all day. 6-7 hours if done properly.....

I would strongly suggest you have a professional do it, while you watch and grab a few tips on using/applying it - that way you can do it yourself next time and make the best application of it.

I had mine done by Specialist Cars of Malton, and really learned a lot.

I very nearly got our cars done professionally, esp my wife's 5-series. The thought of even washing the 5-series sends shivers down my spine. However, I thought I'd give it a try the other wk, started with my 993, then the following wk my wife's 5-series. Each took me 4-5hrs.
I used Zymol on its own before and wasn't that thrilled with the result. So I thought I'd do it properly this time. I wash the car with shampoo, then clay bar the whole car (which took most of the time), then HD cleaner. By this stage the cars were as shiny as they'd ever been. The wax just made it fantastic! What's more, the following wks washing the cars after winter travelling was just a breeze.

The car was never waxed since we bought it last yr, and we just drove it through car wash machines to clean it. Hand washing the 25 acres of surface area with dirt stuck to it like glue due to the lack of wax wasn't fun!

Ah! understood...I sometimes feel the same way about my ML...just TOO much area to wax!! LOL!

I've used Dave and was very happy with the results. The guy slogged it out for 8 hours flat after driving 3 hours from the West Midlands to London. Have cleaned the car a couple of times since and the dirt slides off.

After the input from everyone i decided to give the car the Zymol treatment and cheated by having a professional carry out the works. Dave Bowerman, DB Valeting - Official Zymol Agent, of Stourbridge, Midlands came all the way up North on Saturday to treat the car to some pampering.

I think the results/pictures speak for themselves and I was thoroughly impressed with the care Dave took during the 10 hours he was working on the car. Washed it, Clay barred it, Cleansed it and Waxed it - the full hit - he even did the wheels and windows!.

I would recommend Dave to anyone who has thought of having this done. I have a metallic silver C2 and have tried the clay bar and even resorted to 2000 grit wet sanding in an attempt to get a deep luster. I have used Zaino and Zymol and got REASONABLE results.

My body shop owner, and Best Man at my wedding 30+ years ago says that I'll not get a deep shine from silver. Looking at different car maker's silver, I'm beginning to agree!

What's the opinion of my silver P-car Rennlisters?

Using the same processes, my Magma Red CLK has a shine 3 feet deep!

I would have to disagree with this one. My car is the same colour as yours, Zermatt silver. I do get very good results from 3M handglaze and then apply the wax of your choice, in my case Malms.

Sal... What a beautiful car! They did a great job! The clay bar works wonders... As does the Zymol if applied properly. As I recall they make several different types depending on what color/type of paint you have. They say you can get a deeper shine with any other type of wax... Unfortunately you need to wax it more often that with hard, paste waxes. Also... The old type wax should be stripped off with the Zymol pre-cleaner before attempting to switch from another kind of wax... Per Zymol.

I thought my red one was the nicest I'd seen... I'm thinking I like that yellow as good or better now! WOW!

Hi Guys, the Glasur is great stuff: I was presented bottle #1 at our large once-a-year Porsche fest back in September 2004.

Personally, I love it & do not plan to try anything else: nothing protects our 965 like Zymol in general, and this is great stuff: apply by hand (literally), lightly buff off: stays on thick!

Sorry to you guys that it's $100 a can....I get it for free for life. (sorry, had to throw that in there)
