Default Spring Disaster

Well, had the new struts and springs installed today and...DISASTER!! The H&R springs are obviously incorrect and have lowered the car a ridiculous amount - the car will not fit on the ramp and the alignment cannot be completed!

The springs are for the 993 twin turbo and per the earlier thread had acceptable spring rates. Why would they lower the car so much? I am worried that if I now purchase the 965 or 964 H&R's that it will be the same! After going to so much trouble I really dont want to go back to stock. Is there anything else that would cause the rear of the car to be so low with these springs? Grrrr...

how low is low? Are the wheelwells above or below the top of the tires?

What position did you leave the bottom height adjusters?

Mech set them at the highest. Wheelwells below at the back! I just dont see whyu the 993TT springs would be shorter???

I think we'll need a few pics to cover this (thanks, Jeff Curtis):

Front strut. Appears to be relatively low on the threads.

Rear shock. Yes, this one's near the bottom of the range.

So your collars are at the top of the range, Howard ? Sorry to hear that.

Joey, I havent actually looked yet but the mechanic told me that the collars were at the top. I just picked the car up, parked and came in the house and will go take a look just to make sure he isnt on drugs or anything!

I still have the question - why would the 993TT springs be lower than the H&R's for the 964/965?

EDIT: Just jacked up (had to ramp first because neither of my jacks would fit under!) and the rear collar is at the top of the thread.
Thanks!

This is not good! I was anticipating your newly-sprung C4 smoking my tired RSA this weekend. Bummer.

However, your new avatar is entertaining.

Howard, Sorry to hear of your disaster. What are the chances of returning these springs to the seller? Didn't he's ad claimed that they will fit a 964?

PS. I love your new Avatar!

Thanks Peter, I appreciate the sympathy! It was a gamble..serves me right for trying to get something on the cheap..now its cost me even more!!

Well, the springs are like new...maybe someone would like to buy them for their 993TT..I will probably just put them up for sale.

I'll get the 965 springs that you have in your car. They retail for around $300 from what I recall.

Hopefully I'll be set up next week.

Howard, Performance products is having their annual 20% off sale. So with the discount, the springs are now $272.76. It ends this Friday. (No affiliations)

Thanks Peter...do they charge shipping? I find PP's to be a little overpriced usually (love the catalogue though!)

I was about to order for $299+ Free shipping (from some online store I've forgotten the name of!)

They do charge for shipping and since we're in CA, sales tax will be added. I usually buy from them when they run a special or if I need something quick. I forgot to mention to you that the H&R RSA/965 Performance Springs are a Performance Products Exclusive. I don't know how true this claim is.

Corrections: The RSA/965 Springs are not an exclusive, it's the 993 Turbo springs. Sorry, I must be going blind, can't read fine prints any more.

Somebody up there just doesn't like you, Howard!

My sympathies. The Kahdmus Syndrome has got well beyond a joke.

But...

It will be worth it in the end.
