I guess short of billet blocks and fully custom cranks and cnc'd dry sump pans with integrated bearings etc...most parts are available via the normal aftermarket suppliers. Having said that, the guys like Sid and Shawn and others who have gone down their path have been able to find 'off the shelf' parts that are non Porsche and have obtained great results.
I would say that my motor is probably the most custom that I know of. Unfortunately I just don't quite have the funds to finish the installation even though it's now sitting in the engine bay. Being 'under turbo'd' isn't ideal but it's the same turbo as Gustaf has been running so it will give us a reasonable indication. Hopefully not too long before it is completed and tested and then we can see if all the waste of money shiny bits have been worth it.
Patrick, I see you have separate provisions for lambda sensors in each runner. Perhaps you are aware of that but pressure affects lambda readings and that should be taken into account during tuning. Also it is not recommended to have sensors in high pressure environment permanently, it reduces its lifetime.
Taken from Bosch datasheet:
To build a 500 rwhp engine I don't think it's more expensive to go the 16v route. Simply because you don't need to spend a fortune on the head to get it flowing.
I built a simplistic 3.0l 16v turbo engine in the past. 514 rwhp at 1.15 bar on pump gas.
Stock 968 head. Stock 968 cams. Stock 968/951 headers. Retained variocam.
My current 3.1l is miles away from the above engine in terms of modifications. 682 rwhp at 1.5 bar on E85 with the turbo being the limiting factor.
