Sorry for an off topic tangent - what year engine block? I was a little worried about going turbo on my '82 block (thinner cylinder walls) but I guess it's fine.

My notes have me believe the Mint Turbo has a 944S2 block using 968 squirters and used custom JE pistons.

Could be wrong though...

Jõujaam 968 Turbo used S2 pistons for 3 years before they cracked the cylinder liner in attempt to get more power.

Regarding early block, how are cylinder walls different than any other 2.5liter block? Only 3liter blocks have siamesed cylinders.

It was using stock S2 pistons until they sleeved the block.

The car was built by my friends, Ihave seen it in person too many times and I also helped to sell it (to Switzerland to one of my friends lol )

They're thinner according to Lindsey Racing, although I don't have any measurements to back that up. Maybe that's not accurate?

I had 84 and 87 block side by side, there were no differences other than the tensioner thing. Both were NA blocks.

I think what I will go for is the 16v head, milled 944S pistons, dual cam gears and VEMS. Obviously i won't be able to remain within $2k, let's see how much it will end up costing me. As in anybody of us have remained within budget...

Thanks for that info! How are handling the oil feed? I'm trying to avoid a sandwich plate if at all possible.

I made a t-junction to oil pressure sender fitting.

Not exactly how you'd do it, but my 16v boost engine will come in just over $2k but I am doing all the "expensive stuff" myself. Only farming out the head rebuild to a local shop, and had the cams redone by webcam.

Unless you're doing ALL your work. like ALL of it.
because you're going to need:
- buy or modify forge pistons.
- fix or get new cams.
- Can't remember if the 16v head has the same intake and exhaust flanges as the 8v. But if not, there's more modification and money spend.
- getting a computer to run it all. + tune.

+ extra for other stuff you haven't accounted for that will need replacing under maintenance.
Modifying the pistons can be done, won't be terribly expensive if it's only a little of machining
The new cams will ofcourse be the most expensive!
The intake will have to be done, i've re-used a S2 intake and welded a flangeplate on it, with the normal S intake it's impossible as the material is magnesium instead of aluminium. New S2 intake (preferably broken) will be around 200.
The computer; there is a very neat plug and play VEMS setup, but i'm not sure what the price is, i would guess around 1200..

Oh and don't forget you'll have to get the turbo headers+downpipe and other turbo parts.
And how about cooling? If it's a standard turbo for the 944, you'll need a different waterpump as well..

if anybody needs an S2 intake manifold to cut up I have a spare...
$150 shipped in USA, or $135+international shipping can be arranged...
