Managed 4 laps on the test day. It was hot and our temps did climb a bit more than I thought. We saw 97c oil and water. Not undriveable but higher than I thought we'd see. We also had a brief moment of low oil pressure through the main left hand turn after main straight. Managed 1 sec slower than last year's best time which considering tyres from 2013, 21psi, rich tune, hot day, oil downs, 10kph slower down straight and through T1....not too bad all things considered. We'll strap on the fresh rubber tomorrow morning and turn it up to 24psi and see what we can manage. I think it will be a war of attrition over this weekend. Might be last man standing.

I'm guessing low oil pressure moment was more caused by the high oil temps.
How big is the oil cooler(s) on this car? Is it ducted?

Maybe the ultimate answer is a radiator-sized oil cooler mounted in the trunk with a roof-scoop and license-plate vent hole.

Turn 1 is a high speed left turn. Could be issue with pickup, oil in head etc

I think it may have been a combo of long high speed /G-loading left hand turn...very hot track temps (over 50c), oil wasn't too hot at 98c / 207f but getting warm, and the design of the oil pan with all the scavenges on the rhs. We're actually going to weld/tap the lhs to put in one of the lines just to help in this turn.

We ran 24 then 26psi through the motor on the 2nd day. Had minimal headlift and the temps never got over those posted above. While pulling the engine down for the 3rd time in 2 weeks was frustrating and time consuming, it was the right thing to do. Thanks to Michael Moore for some salient observations!

Overall, it's a great little 2.5ltr motor that has done very few miles and we could be selling it soon if anyone is interested? Cost me less than $2k to ship it and the US dollar is strong against ours at the moment.

How much would you sell that engine for Patrick?

I'd have to think about it. What it's cost and how much I can get for it are two different amounts. Safe to say it's more than the usual $3-$4k. PM me if you're really interested. :-)

Oh I was just asking out of curiosity, sorry. A built race engine like that remains a sweet dream for me for now. But yes, trying to get the money back you've spent on something is always difficult. It just depends on if you get lucky and find a buyer who sees the worth in it.

So, if you're selling this motor, does that mean your 3L is going to be ready?

I have no doubt the motor will sell. With all the work paul has put into the custom bits. The most nuts head i've seen. and the closed deck, probably now stronger block stud threads. It is probably the most bullet proof block out there.

Spewing couldn't make it down. next year no doubt will be there for the whole event. hopefully if even gustaf makes it down. and convince george, he'd love to see in action

Wasn't trying to sound like I was snubbing your question. Sorry if it came across like that. The problem with selling anything like this is there is so little reference to compare it to. To put a feeler value out there would scare most people off. Plus I need to consult with the builder as I don't actually own all the components. Bit of an interesting situation, not that it would impede the sale. It's a great little motor as is, but would certainly be an advantage to someone who was class restricted to a specific cubic capacity.

Yes, sorry you couldn't get there Pauly. Long hot days but plenty to look at.

I'm really impressed with this motor. While it is peakier than the 3.1 we had, it made up with rpms in some parts of the track. If it was my primary motor I would play around with a different cam and turbo I think. Still working away at the 3.2 16v one so that is why this one may be up for sale in the near future.

Here's Paul's fastest lap for the weekend. There was some sort of GPS error going through T1. You can see the throttle is at 100% but the speed drops momentarily. This is a signal error, not a sudden loss of car speed. He also had long brake pedal coming into T2. Consider that you're heading into a hairpin and are doing 230kph/142mph at the 100mtr braking point....you don't want to feel a long pedal let me tell you!! So this then stuffed up his heel/toe and also had some oversteer on the way out. We lost over half a second just there. We also lost .3 a bit later in the lap. Had this not happened we would have been right up there with the front. Losing 2 of the 5 sessions to a Red Flagged car over the event really hurt us too. We were trying to get some more mechanical grip in the rear and just didn't have enough time to play with the adj available to us. It really felt like we might do the Steven Bradbury but it just didn't work out. Consider also the car that won Open class. It has a bit more power than us (tuned on same dyno) and is 260kgs lighter. That's 570lbs !!! They can go through T1 flat without lifting. We did well to even get close to him. The car that came 2nd was a well built and driven Evo. We were behind him on the straight on one lap and he drove off into the distance. Figure they're boosting 35psi+ so again, our little car punches above it's weight for sure.

thanks for following.
