What kind of power can a stock 1986 951 transmission hold?
Could nog find it using the search function,,
I once read 400lbs of torque?
But if that is it what if you would have more?
How to upgrade that so it doesnt blow up..
Tt also, what can it handle.

TonyG is into the 600+ hp/tq range on standard torque tube and turboS transaxle...
plenty of the V8 cars should be in the 400+tq range also.

As stated, these transaxles live long lives behind full blown race V8s, its the standard transmission used in GT40 replica race cars. A freshened up turbo trans should easily hold 500+ ft lbs with a driver who isnt a dunce. The TT is ~1" diameter hardened steel, you'll rip the axles apart or blow the trans sky high before you wreck a torque tube.

The weak point is the ring and pinion; but as mentioned lots of us with V8's in the 400whp/tq range. Ive been running an AOR Turbo S box with 360ft-lbs to the wheels but do keep another spare LSD box in my garage. I have another set of chromoly axles from XSChop and still need to order a spare set of CV's for the 'track spares'. As long as you are respectful of the power and instant torque i think they hold up fine.
A reinforcement plate can be installed that strengthens the case and prevents the pinion from blowing up. This was a mod the GT40 replica guys came up with.

The second gear main shaft

I blew up a non-S tranny with about 475rwhp at WOT second gear. It's maybe the worst sound a car can make! It had about 75k miles on the tranny it at the time. Whether it was ready to fail anyway, I'll never know. Kevin Gross rebuilt a turbo S tranny with new hardened lower gears, and I now have about 25k on it and going strong.

I'll send you a pic with the plate i bought from xschop, it's a plate that keeps you pinion from torqueing under load. Other thing would be a bar from the end of the gearbox the the chassis to keep it from pivoting so you don't break axles..
But PA, question.. At this moment, how much power are you making? And what are your goals? Because the last update i saw was not impressive enough to break standard gearboxes!

Hoping to get close to 400bhp and plus 350lbs torque in the near future. But since im getting the turbo s transmission installed it would be a good thing to upgrade. Don't want to get it out twice.
