Default New race car - 968

Since I hang out here a bit, I thought y'all may be interested in this. Have been having tons of issues with the turbo, and I happened to kind of stumble across this one. Price was right, and the car has had all the right things done to it. I'll still do a bit to make it a bit more like I want it, but it is a great starting point. Will sell one or the other, but want a NA car for teh reliability of it. Has all the wide fender flares, fiberglass hood and front bumper. All the Racer's edge stuff, Kolkein sway bars, a the 968 Turbo wing, and a short R&P in the gearbox. Oh yeah, and the 993 headlamp conversion.

That looks like a nice car! Can you post pics of the headlight conversion?

Knowing car prices (especially racecars) in the US, I bet you picked this up for a Song!
I went in a nice little 968 CS on the track the other day and was really surprised at what a great little car it was. It had some similar mods to it I believe. I get the whole n/a thing in terms of reliability on the track. Not as much of a rush as the turbo but significantly more of a rush than a turbo sidelined due to the usual issues. The only thing I'd say about your one Harry is it looks undertyred with those bolt on flares. However would 240bhp need anything wider?

Patrick, rules prevent me from going over a 305, and the only 305 out there is a Toyo. So I'm stuck with Hoosier 295's. But, no, I doubt that I would need more. I can probably run much wider than the 245's on the front, too. Car actually came with a set of Toyos, but the other problem wiht them is that the rolling diameter is larger, as they are 305/35R18's, compared to 285/30R18's I've been running. Hoosiers on there now are 295/30R18's.

What prompted it was that I went, literally, 7 times to the track and did not run. Finally was able to run a couple of weeks ago, but I'm down on power, as something hokey is going on with boost.....only getting about half as much as I should.

But yeah, I picked it up for a song, even by US standards.

I think GT Racing may make the fenders for it. I know that Odurandina has done it, and there are write-ups of it here. But all I have is what you see. Teh fiberglass fenders were made to accommodate the 993 headlamps. Not sure what all else is involved.

D9 is the only one that I know of that makes the fenders...that's what these look like. I've been hoping that Odurandina would make a mold of his (he did it himself) since D9 hasn't had a very good track record recently and shipping is expensive. I want to do the same to mine.

Looks great BTW!

Surprised to read that they're 295's on the rear Harry. They sure don't look quite that wide. Can you run slicks or do they have to be DOT?

Nice. Is that Clark's old car?? If so, it is a nice build.

Jerome, it is indeed Clark's old car. Was built about 10 years ago, and was without question the best back then. Even has a set of the rarer than hen's teeth Charlie Arms on it. Only things that really merit updating are the cage and possibly the dampers. Has 2-way Leda's w/ remote reservoirs. If it were done today, it would likely be done with MCS/Motons.

My plans for it are to do a lot of stripping. SP3 rules allow a lighter car, now, and I generally prefer mine to be more stripped down. So I'll be pulling out the dash, and a ton of wiring. May even do it like I did my Turbo, and strip all the body wiring out, adding back only stuff for gauges, fuel pump, tail lights, and then power to the DME. I will likely replace the cage like the one Racer's Edge did for my Turbo, as it generally offers better ingress and egress, and it is also welded in, rather than bolted.

looks great.

from what I'm seeing [in the photos above], my fenders are a tad steeper.... they're 993 front fender sections connected onto the backs of the 968 fenders by means of a short run of sheet metal as a bridge, the redundant metal removed, with thin layers of epoxy and finishing resins to smooth out the bumps. we got them close, so very little plastic was required.

love they guys at D9, but I would not recommend their fenders. they're not done at the right angle.

they're too flat and can not accommodate the much larger 993 xenon lamp housings.

edit;

I just got of the phone with Eric Hill of TPC in Alvarado, TX.

he's planning on replicating my fenders sometime this summer....

I've seen Eric's lightweight widebody 944 fenders. he does stellar work.

maybe we'll see yellow 993 Xenon lamps on a track car.

down the road, it'd be cool to get a set done in a carbon/composite.
