Thanks to this little guy....

... I was able to install these little guys.

It was pretty stressful doing this from my last experience, but I got them in this time without problems. Moral of the story, if it doesn't feel right it is probably isn't. Reset and start over.

I'm trying to figure out which seal is the correct oil pickup tube seal. Is it the clear one? It fits right around the pickup tube, but has a bit of play in the girdle.

Also, does this rod bearing shell from lindsey look normal?

Mine look exactly the same and I'll probably buy a set of OE porsche Glycos. Read somewhere on the 911 boards that glyco boxed bearings can be extremely inconsistent especially on the edges. (I think made in mexico sticker on the box is a no-no)

I checked the tolerances on each and they were within their range for new. Maybe i should get a three piece exhaust and crossmember just in case.

that's frustrating they don't look at them before they sell them. Do you think that bearing is bad and I shouldn't use it in the motor?

I'm puzzled. I think i bought the wrong oil pan. The one I bought doesn't even have a place to bolt in the oil level sensor. Are the '86 pans different from '87? I bought an '86 from another user and went to fit it up to make sure it would fit with the pickup tube, but without the gasket on I cannot tell. I also realized that my new pickup tube (used, from an '87 turbo) is bigger in diameter than my old one. Does anybody have a part number for the correct pan/pickup tube?

Also, I got the Porsche oil pickup tube seal since I read a few threads of people melting their clear reinz seals. It seems small and it doesn't squish out like the other one did.

Oil level sensor was a 87+ feature.

When I rebuilt my 86 turbo years ago I upgraded to a late oil pan but also had to use a late pickup tube and late dip stick. Check the PET. I'm pretty sure the part numbers are different between 86 & later models.

Which is the later model oil pickup tube? The smaller pickup or larger pickup? I can't seem to find the part number on the pickup tube.

The 86 Turbo Has it's own Unique pan pickup and oil cooler early style Pressure Relief Valve. The Pan on the 87+ has (2) major difference, #1 The 1987+Pan has a lower cut out so the sump can sit lower in the oil pan. #2 The 1987+ pan has a side mount port for a oil level sending unit.

I hope my numbers are right so double check.

early style pan 944 101 201 11
early style pickup 944 107 032 06
late style pan 944 101 201 14
late style pickup 944 107 032 07

here is a Lindsey link of the pickup

Re: oil pickup tube seal

On the engine I currently have apart, it was a black seal. Although it's an early NA motor. If it helps, I can mic the pickup tube to get you a diameter.

i think i have the .06 (part number) pickup tube since it is a larger diameter. The .07 one i have has a hole in the screen. I went ahead and test fitted it all with the later style oil pan. It seemed to fit alright with the sensor in. I test fitted it without the oil pan gasket. It seemed a little wobbly, but that is probably from not having the gasket on. I peeped in though the sensor hole and oil drain hole to see if the tube was hitting the pan. It seems like it isn't. The pictures are sorta hard to see the fitment, but there is a slight gap between the pickup tube and pan. I think the early style pickup tube will fit with the late style oil pan. Am I wrong with this?

It won't fit right because you want the sump close to the bottom of the pan so their is not oil starvation.

The newest revisied oil pan plastic baffle fit's both oil pan's. I might be wrong but the dip stick might b different on late pan.

I'll put the original pickup tube in to see if there is a difference. They look essentially the same with the only difference being the diameter of the screen.
