Late style suction tube on order.

In the mean time i'm trying to figure out which turbo I have. The guy i got it from said it was a hybrid turbo, but I do not know exactly what that means (other than mixing turbines/compressors). The only thing i can really discern is that the turbine housing is a Turbonetic housing since it has their logo on it.

Bottom end complete! Just bolted the oil pan on today. Followed the torque specs and used Loctite 5900 sealant. I found I had to do the last torque a few times to get them all to the same torque. Also, oil pump sleeve is a pain to install. Didn't seem like the teeth wanted to mesh, but finally got them to. Now just waiting on cometic and m-tune to arrive from lindsey racing. Its getting exciting!

Is it okay to use loctite 5900 on the entire oil pan gasket? Is it just overkill or is it going to make it leak?

Advice from Michael Mount was to follow factory guidelines and only use oil on the surfaces. I am 99.9% sure that is what he posted on another thread.

luckily that stuff just falls right off the gasket. However it will take some time to get it off the metal. Didn't look like the gasket was sitting right. Oil method next. Are there any other particularly tricky areas prone to leak?

Don't over torque and definitely make sure the gasket does not bulge out anywhere.
The engine I am working on now, that belongs to my friend, had a bulge in the oil pan gasket....previous owner.

When I pulled the engine apart there was sand and small gravel in the bottom of the oil pan....not kidding!!!! Some people should just not be allowed to own cars LOL.

The pan is so easy to remove right now, its a no brainer to redo it.

Finally cleaned all of the RTV sealant off and oiled up the gasket. Same as last time, hand tight. Then 36 in-lbs then 84 in-lbs. It took about 3 times on the last torque to get them to all be torqued down. Seems like every time you move one bolt at all, then all of them need to be retorqued. If I was to do it the factory way, by going hand tight, then 3 ft-lbs and then 7 ft-lbs, I would be able to remove the first couple of bolts by hand after the last bolt was tightened.

Finally got the head on. Went with a cometic .051 head gasket from LR. Looks good. Also sourced a new rear timing belt cover. This was by-far the most difficult thing to find, but I found a Porsche dealership in Canada which wanted to get rid of it and got it at cost. 50usd!

Next on the list is competing the rest of the bolt on items on motor, rebuilding the engine harness and I'll be integrating m-tune into the harness for a sleek look.

Nice progress, looks great. Did you paint the block?

Looking good. I would probably put some masking tape over all of the openings to stop dust and crap from getting in the engine.

Yep good advice. I put masking tape on right after snapping photos and yes I painted the block.
