With the dipstick being use-able then there's really no need for the electronic level sensor anyhow, just thinking of a backup plan. The oil level sensor has a temp sensor built in but after thinking about it is probably calibrated to depth of the stock pan, so NVM on that one.

I think the side drain plug will be nice - just avoid NPT threads, if you can use the metric crush washer/rubber seal I think those work best.

Yeah, the drain plug will be VW standard M14x1.5. So, the original 07K one can be used, or something like this will also fit: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assemble...1196ecs01akt2/

Could you post a pic of the 07K oil level/temp sender location? Did it only come on later year engines? Or maybe just the TTRS?

I didn't see any electronics when I pulled my upper pan off, except for the hall effect sensor of course. And my engine is from a '10 model Jetta.

thanks

I believe the 924s is identical to a 944 as far as engine and drivetrain, right? I can’t think of any reason why it wouldn’t unless there’s something different about the brake booster location, crossmember, or torque tube. Same hood, right?

Parts catalog for TTRS shows part 06E907660, but that’s an older style with aluminum housing. Looks like it may not have been offered in the VW 07K. Here is a pic of the one used in my EA888.3 that looks better, part 03F907660E. Probably a float on a linear pot. You can see the little nipple-like protrusion for the temp sensor.

For reference, here is what LR suggests (and what I did) on their baffle kit. The red areas are where to weld. Obviously this leaves a good 1/16” gap in areas, potentially 1/8” down at the bottom. These things aren’t meant to be air tight, just to stop a massive rush of oil away from the pickup.

Default Need more oil pans

So far I have 5 oil pans. Need at least 5 more to do a cnc machining run. Anyone else want to send one to me? If not, I’ll buy 5 cores on eBay and you can exchange yours later. If interested, pm me and I’ll send you my address to ship to.

Seems like I’m always late to the party haha. Motor finally purchased! The yard said it’s a low mile, seems clean so far.

Alan I’ll be sending my oil pan your way shortly 👍

Cheers,

Dan

I just want to let everyone know that there are some new 07K 944 parts in the works from iAbed. These will be listed on the Boost Brothers Garage store as soon as they become available:

- Rear cooling fitting with factory temp sensor port. This will replace the plastic one with a lower profile billet piece (and more than likely a welded-on elbow for rad hose connection).

- Cast aluminum thermostat housing with straight hose barb. Compared to the stock plastic piece, this is intended to be more robust and to fit the 944 as well as other longitudinal 07k installations better by not pointing the hose toward the rear of the car.

- Vacuum pump delete / blockoff plate. This part is necessary in order to fit the 07k in your 944 without shaving off part of the firewall. See pics below.

Many thanks to Issam for investing his time and capital into designing and tooling up these parts.

Integrated Engineering (IE) makes a vacuum pump block off plate too; fits pretty good but I bet IAbed will be able to beat their price

I know this have been covered in the past but maybe it has changed since the initial estimates - How much is the engine length reduced when installed, compared to a 951?
What is the total weight change? These type of things are usally underestimated since an engine swap also tend to add weight in new places such as engine mounts, bellhousing, adapters etc.

Keep up the good job!

We don’t have final numbers yet, but we will do our best to get an accurate weight. Alex’s original math stated that a fully dressed and turbo 07K would be 20-30 pounds lighter than a 951 engine. Given the heft of the mounts and bellhousing, let’s call it a wash at this point, at least until we get a true measurement.

As for engine placement, here are some pics. The weight shift towards the center of the car is nice.
