I worked using a SLS ProX 500 a few years back that printed in what was essentially Nylon 12. I think that would hold up well as the melting point is in the 175C range IIRC. I believe it has pretty good chemical resistance as well, so if you could get everything to seal up I don't see any reason why it would work for testing on an NA engine.
Not sure that printer would have been able to print it in one go but for sure could in a couple pieces. I'm sure that machine is old tech now and they have bigger and better machines that could pull it off in one print.

It's the closest thing you'll be able to get to a Nylon 6/6. Maaaybe if you ask nicely they'll have something like this to use for the manifold?

Usually only ABS is prone to shrinkage, but if he's having a 3rd party print it, they should be able to account for it. But yes, the tolerances will probably have to be changed for a 3d printed part, Alan. Depending on the printer, my experience is that it can vary anywhere from .005-.025" but they should be able to account for that if you're paying them that much.

I've had lots of brackets printed in various materials before machining, and 0.005" is nothing but 0.025" is enough to keep things from going together. I just wanted to make sure it's pointed out - on many printed things, final dimensions are not critical, and I've found you need to make a point of asking for for this to be accounted for.

This is correct. Acetone smoothing is a good way to make ABS prints visually appealing, however, it's near impossible to maintain the mechanical tolerances and dimensions when doing this. Also, ABS is prone to layer separation, even when printed properly, and regardless of the surface finish. Modern PLA prints when designed right can withstand quite a bit of abuse, but for heat resistance, Polycarbonate and other special blends could be used as well. I don't see why a 3D printed intake couldn't be used for N/A applications, as long as they're made out of the proper materials.

I sent 25% payment to iAbed for all the CNC machined pieces of the Base Kit. For your planning, I would like to start collecting payments from everyone in 2 or 3 weeks, which is about when he should be getting everything done and ready to ship. So far, here is who I have down for a kit (there's still room for one more on this group buy).

I contacted SPA today to see when they will have the turbo manifolds back in stock for those who are going to go with that option.
They said it's about 2 months out before they will have them in stock online again. He said they have some ready in Brazil and could drop ship it if it's needed right away but I imagine that would come with additional shipping cost, plus time to go through customs, so it probably wouldn't gain much over just waiting.

You may want to hold off. I’m working a deal with SPA now to import a bunch of the exhaust manifolds. I think they will be making my intake manifolds as well. It will save a lot of the shipping and import fees to do a lot of them at once.

Guess it is time for me to contribute something . Seeing as how I am a 12 volt guy for a living , I went and picked up a complete 2010 07k harness and ECU from my local pick n save . I`m going to split the harness open and shape it to fit it`s new home . I will make notes and try to provide all the necessary info . Oh , and this only cost me $24 , with a $10 donation to Toys for Tots .
