I found a '89 951 on CL and I am really contemplating if it is worth the asking price for what the ad says. It seems well equipped with the options listed. If I am to buy it would be for street use. I already have dedicated 944.
What do the Turbo experts have to comment on that?![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Thanks!

Sport seats and LSD... nice.
Looks pretty clean with an owner that might actually have some knowledge/care about it. Seems like a good deal to me. Gotta see if it has any records.

If it is an '89 it is an S. My '89 has considerably more miles than that and is a reliable dd, but that is after 7 years of ownership. Equally likely, at that age and mileage you could see some breathtakingly expensive repairs. A change in drivers brings out weaknesses, so you have to be ready for that.
I think any adult-owned non-modified '89 or '88S is potentially a good bet if you are sufficiently committed to the model to, say, rebuild an engine or transmission, just because there aren't that many left. Say you pay $7k and put in $15k over time... show me a nicer car that also hauls groceries and skis for under $25k.

Seems like a nice car!
Just to clarify! It has been debated a few times before but the true Turbo S was only built in 88 as a street version of the Turbo Cup cars and most of them in silberrosa color with the so called "studio interior" Apart from the uprated engine and turbo the S also had LSD and the M030 package as standard (harder bushes, thicker roll bars, adjustable koni suspension etc). It didnt have sunroof and was equipped with a wheelset exclusive to the car (was also available -89)
There was other small bits and pieces that differed as well but I will not mention them.
All post -88 turbos recieved the new engine and turbo but not the other Turbo S parts as standard.

89 Turbo is mechanically exactly the same in every way as 88 turbo S.
The two differences are studio interior that is composed with non sport seats and hideous (by todays standards) rainbow cloth, and silver rose paint.
All turbo S cars (3) I have seen in person had sunroofs.

I think the price is decent, obviously if some of those issues pointed out weren't there the car would be more $. I think if you can dedicate some time, this would be a nice pickup. Right off the bat you know there are things that are going to need attention, but that is to be expected. Buy it, cars like this need to be saved.

In 10 years it will be worth at least x2, but more likely x5.
