Good info Van, I did not realize there was a difference in cylinder wall thickness. I had planned to use an early block as a basis to build a stroker motor, I will not look for a late block. Did they change over at the same time as everything else, ie am I looking for an 86+ block?

I *think* they changed at that time... All I know is that for my '84 ChumpCar, we pulled apart the engine and found the block was scored. We got an '86 block, and the cylinder walls are about 2mm thicker.

The crank weights about the same as the block!!
I usually annoy the V8 guys by carrying two 944 blocks at the same time (head studs make good carrying points) in to the machine shop.
