Default Dealership Wants Wire Transfer before pickup

Question. Picking up base 911 this friday. Finance Manger says dealership only takes payment in the form of wire transfers. Paid for my wife's X7 with a personal check no problem. Porsche dealership won't take a cashiers check or outright cash. Hoping to take car home friday, but that will also be the first time I will have seen the car or even had a chance to test drive. I've never paid for a car without looking it over or taking it for a drive. Is this common among Porsche dealerships? Either way, you guys have issue paying for a car site unseen? I've read it take up to 3 days for wire transfer to go through, or do they just need confirmation that wire transfer was sent? I use Bank of America. Thx

Normal.

Especially if it's a Porsche dealer. What are they going to do? Go out of business and flee in the middle of the night?

And people buy and pay for cars unseen and undriven all the time.

I agree. It's normal and a lot of people purchase vehicles sight unseen. In fact, I purchase most of my vehicles without ever seeing or driving them. In addition, if it is CPO then take comfort in knowing the vehicle is backed by Porsche.

So go look at the car and make sure it’s what you ordered, and then initiate the wire, and pick it up when it’s cleared.

Agree with above, if you're buying new. Paid mine via wire transfer prior to delivery day. That was the requirement and proof of insurance.

Of course, don't sign final forms prior to inspecting the vehicle. You can lose your deposit but wire transfer can always be reversed if you ultimately don't accept delivery.

Most major banks have on line apps that you can wire money. You might need to call ahead to see what your single wire limit is. Even on the busiest of days the wire should go through in less than 30 minutes and more like 15 minutes on normal days. Wires have become more common. We had to pay for our Mercedes that way.

Thought about it. Dealership is about 1.5 hrs from where I live. Plan was to pick it up Friday morning and bring it to my ppf guy which is 5 miles down the road. If y’all think pre paying is common then that makes me feel better.

One thing that happened to me - send a test wire first of some small amount ($20) to establish the destination authenticity, so the bank won't hold up the big wire closer to delivery day. Then just subtract that $20 from the big wire.

Most dealerships will ppf and tint the car to your specs if you ask them to. Also, if you plan to daily drive it in very hot weather, the ppf will last about 5 years before you roll the dice on stripping clear coat during removal. I used to ppf all of my vehicles but now only ceramic coat them. For a non-pts color, I don't see the reason to ppf since it is expensive and you could replace the bumper or whatever piece if it gets really bad for nearly the same price.

Thread a few days ago discussing the same topic: https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1416...w-992-c2s.html

Personally I’d do the paperwork ahead of time and wire only after checking out the car in person. As someone said above, wire transfer these days should take no time during business hours.

My dealer gave me the options of paying with a cashiers check, wire, or personal check (subject to credit check). I went the personal check with credit check. It was a Saturday afternoon, and I wanted to get the deal done and go home and have a beer .

This is nonsense - No way would I wire the funds before pickup or inspection. That request is not normal or reasonable.

Well, then you best have everything setup before hand at your bank for the ETF, have sent the test ETF, and get to the dealer early that morning and send the wire from your phone app after inspection. It might take a few minutes to send, but 2-3 hours is more likely so you'll have to wait it out at the dealership until it moves.

disagree 100% with everything you just said. None of it is true and none of it makes sense. sorry, but absurd thought process and opinion of PPF.... you're just simply wrong.
