Hmm, not far from me, maybe I could check it out next time I'm at Road Atlanta. 120k is a bit steep indeed. I think 119k would be reasonable though.

It's pricey, but it does have some historic pedigree.

Another (similar) one was for sale ~2 yrs ago for 70K: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...ns-am-car.html The Paul Miller car may have been the "father" of the 944GTR as proposed by Al Holbert.

The problem is where to race it and what class would it be in.

While legal in all the clubs, it is a tube frame car.... which bumps it into a class where you have 1000+ HP cars.

And as far as the price goes.... $120k is nothing compared to what it costs to build a car like that.

The whole car is a tube frame race car.

The only thing Porsche on the car is probably the one-off cylinder and block castings.

I agree, on one hand it's actually great value. On the other, what to do with it? It's old world aero too but you wouldn't want to change this car I doubt.

The aero is an easy fix. But you'd still be bumped into classes where the cars are huge HP and stupid fast.

Just not sure if you'd want to be making changes to a classic...for what it's worth?

Wow so it's not even a 944 engine?

It sort of is....

The head and block were similar but different castings from the production pieces. The pistons, rods, crank, valves, valve springs, were not production. It is dry sumped, and solid lifters on the valves ( note the access holes on the cam carrier).

It's a real race engine not a beefed up production engine.

It's a great car worth every bit of $120k.

I would. The car would be very fast around a track. And there's nothing like a professionally built race car.

Some aero would be fairly trivial to add on. Plus you'd just make molds of the factory body work, then put a knock-off set on with the changes and go race.

The only real issue is getting slicks in the sizes that are on the car now and brake pads for the calipers. That might have to change a little.

But again... my only concern would be who I'd have to race against being a tube frame car.
