The engine is about to be finished..

But there is a question; the Timing belt.. As i'm driving the 16v, is there a kevlar belt available for that one? For the 8v i've found one but not for the 16v yet!

Well, there is no 16 belt from Gates.. But after some checking and asking it found out it's not neccesary!

But here is another update, the engine is almost finished! :

Next week i'll get the engine back and start on the final mounting of it and than into the enginebay!

Yes, great progress and I bet you are getting excited! I'm sure it's a bit tricky dealing with the intercooling on an n/a car? I'd think carefully about that vented nose piece. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but functionality is very important too.

Yeah i know.. And you are right but; function over form is a saying that can be used in this matter.. I NEED the extra air in the car and as the standard airhole for the radiator is too small i'll need some extra for my oil cooler.

The IC will probably not be as i'm planning on going for AWIC instead of FMIC! Yes it is heavyer but as the turbo is probably not going to be in the standard place i have a huge hole over there to put in a big AWIC!

Ah, interesting solutions. I would say that having a big opening without an outlet is a bit redundant though. The air will need to get out and if it can't, it will create a high pressure zone which some believe might even contribute to raised temps, not lowered. I would contemplate using a hood vent/s Bas. :-)

Hehe.. It's like you read my mind, i was already on the lookout for a fibreglass hood which i can use for track-environment! (ofcourse there will be a big hole in it than)

But indeed interesting solutions, haven't seen an AWIC setup on a 944 yet!

Even though you're moving much of the traditional locations of turbo or intercooler, you have to address the issue of airflow. My c/f hood was bought from Van Zweden which I'm pretty sure is from your country? I would look towards getting one of these or an f/glass version and putting in one of the 968 type vents you can buy.

Well, actually, van zweeden doesn't make anything, they are just the reseller. Van Thull Development is the producer of all the parts. That's also the company that made the custom nosepanel!

And i do have to get a vent, just unsure at the moment of the one that i want.. But as it will take another 2/3 months before i even have the engine finished (intake, exhaust, looking for intercooler, buying other parts..) i will have plenty of time before i need to decide!

But thanks for the tip about the 968 vent, i'll check if it has been done before on a 944 and how it looks!

I bought a hood and 968 rear spoiler from V.Zweden some years back. Cost me a lot of money and needed to be 'finished' when they got here.

There are generic vents you can get or that 968 style one. Having an exit is a great idea in my opinion.

Yep i know exactly what you mean, v zweeden is very expensive! I just bought a hood for €200, already in primer so only needs to be painted. I think i'll make it black!

Just checked the 968 vent; it will be right behind the oil cooler on the spot where my turbo is going to be so that will not be an option..
