Default 3.0l 16v turbo rod bearing failure

After only a few track events number 2 rod bearing failed on my 3.0l 16v turbo engine. I was just going to test the new race car a few times before the winter - when the engine is scheduled for a dry sump... But the bearing decided to take an early vacation last week!

All other bearings looks good. The crank have a deep mark in it so it can probably not be used with porsche bearings anymore.
Not sure what route to go from here. The block is a PD/CEP block with larger head studs, pinned girdle etc so it makes sense to keep the block and do a MID conversion.
...and perhaps offset stroke the crank and do a 3.2l !

Ouch, did you hear any big end noise before the bang, maybe the rod broke first, was anything left of the shells ?.

Grind the crank and do a 3.2

Then let us see how the smaller bearings work out on a proper track

Have it welded up and stroked a bit. I always drill the end of the crank throw with a supplemental oil hole and have yet to have a failure. Many guys cross drill but I did mine this way so that cent. force pulls the oil out. Def sucks duke, good luck on whatever you decide to next!

Perp drill just on number 2 ?, I considered cross drilling a 3.0 crank but it seems not everyone thinks it's a good idea without increasing the oil pressure.

Dry sump = done. Just bad luck that you didn't have the system yet.

Really.

It is not like the LS engines never spin a bearing, or overheat, or xyz. At least when the V8 guys have issues, you don't see a bunch of spectators announcing that a turbo I4 is the solution. Pretending that the LS swaps don't have their own challenges or issue is just ridiculous.

Welll, as a joke. clearly he isn't. I highly suggest WET sleeving from Darton, then turning the boost up to 11.

BUT.. There are too many V8 goofballs in here to let that go.

Not sure how far you can stroke the 3.0l engine. The crank have 88 mm stroke as is. If you go up to around 92 mm it will gain ~0.1l but I don't have time or energy to experiment right now.

MID's is out of the question according to Chris, the block is too damaged

I'm not totally against an LS-conversion but since I already have everything else for a 600 hp 3.0l 16 turbo it makes sense to get a new block and prep it.
If I would go the LS-route I want new parts, 550 hp MINIMUM, dry sump and all the conversion bit's. But that would cost $15-25k USD as far as I can tell so it's not really an option to getting a new 3.0l shortblock in order.
