Iam sure there are better things to do than 951 guys bashing on 951 guys, so why don't we go and do something more constructive and bash on the 928 guys?

LOL...OK, I'll get the ball rolling!

I repeat that I once beat a 928s from a roll on with a 72' Vega!

Don't know too much about 928s. I have driven it it though, an S4 auto so not very fast and thought that it was a little porky. I heard the 5 speed ones are decent though.

God those Vegas are almost as good as the 948.

Vega memories. One of my heros growing up, Grumpy Jenkins. A mechanical engineer who put his degree to use building drag cars on very low budgets. He beat many high dollar teams in the seventies by using skill and knowledge rather than a large bank roll. He invented dry sump oiling systems along with many other things that are now common place in the racing world. He died this year, the man is a legend.

Muscle cars are cool, I like muscle cars. I even like better 951 cars that can do what muscle cars can do, turns and be daily driven.

Yeah Grump is a legend for sure. The Vega in the following story was an original Don Hardy V8 Vega, the original title came out of Floydada, TX!

The real story:

I had a small block with tri-power under the stock flat hood on a 72' Vega with a Muncie 4spd. The car was built to be a sleeper as it still had the stock rearend and a turbo crossflow muffler in the back to mimick the stock Vega exhaust outlet out the side behind the rear tire. Well, except mine had two.

I was following a buddy in his 67' Coronet with a tunnel ram dual quad 440 and 5:13 gears down the highway. I should actually term that "crawling" down the highway. This was mid 80's so the 928 was still sold new. I looked in the rearview as this car was bearing down on us with driving lights blazing. He hits the brakes and rolls next to my buds quick but over geared Mopar. I spotted a big hair (think 1985!) blonde in the passenger seat and Texas Dealer plates on the back. I clearly remember realizing it was the faster 928 as it was an "S" model. This guy starts messing with my friends NON-highway machine and then hits it. Hmm...I'm game, I dropped it into third and revved it nearly 7000rpm while catching him. I banged 4th when I was dead even with him. Yeah, insult to injury when I scratched the tires hitting fourth gear! Bye bye...

It was always fun catching rubber in four gears with that car.

Just think this guy was probably a dealer principal driving his demo. Wonder if he brought to the techs on Monday morning asking WTF??

Eventually I put a Ford rearend, an automatic and nitrous on it. I'd like to have another one. Thinking the modern day equivalant would be a S10 with a turbo'd LS1!

All in good fun 928 guys...very cool GT car!

Nice story. I love sleeper car too...but for muscle cars, wouldn't the exhaust and more aggressive cam, phat rear tires gives it away? My 951 is somewhat a sleeper too...no bright paint job, and no gauges hanging off of the A pillar or anything- even exhaust is mellow due to turbo. The thing that may give it away are 305 mm section width tires which means all business though. :P

Ironically when I had my 928s before the 951 the only street race I lost was a roll with s 951. Lol

But off the line that 928 was quick.

Testify, Brother lart!

These threads warm my heart and harken back to the good ole days when Andrew went ballistic NIGHTLY on LR. HAHAHAHAHA!!! Damn those were fun times! Sadly, this lil hubub has far too little venom to even make the Top 50 list. You ladies need to pick up your game! Cripes, it's like you are farting in each others general direction. Which one of you is the ape and which one is the dead guy?

I did a spirited drive through the twisties following an S4 once - he was a good driver and the car seems to handle the country road pretty well. He'd rocket away after the a turn...has about 400tq so yea, was pretty quick for a big GT car.
