I think that can be a real PITA to fix.
My nephew had to deal with that repair, and the repair is pretty involved, from what he said ...
Parts were pretty expensive as well
Sorry... Good luck ..

Open to suggestions. A quick search of the forum turned up a couple sunroof threads on the 928 board, but nothing relevant.

Sounds like some teeth on the sunroof gear are broken on the passenger side.

Sunroof repair cost 20 bucks for gears from Calgary Porsche dealer and 30 minutes to fix following clarks garage process.

Here is PET
http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...5&Line_Item=65

If its part 5 then your in for a ride ( The part that was broken in part 5 was on the very left side at the end there is a metal piece that broke off ...)
If its just the gear then its very fixable
either way good luck

Eddie, Grushy and the folks at Clark's - thanks. As far as I can tell, the arms were just misaligned. Followed the Clark's procedure to manually retract enough to get the old sunroof off. Then then removed the cover on the passenger side gear. Visual inspection revealed no broken gears (to my untrained eye), so I removed and reset so both gears were in fully retracted position.

Installed the new top and cycled through a couple openings and closings. Seems fine.

New top looks great, and appears to seal better than the old. Also, I'm a little over 6 feet and the extra inch or so of head room and the feeling of openness is appreciated. I need to clean it up - got greasy fingerprints all over it. Even dirty, I don't find anything wrong with the bronze tint. But then, I have always been a function over form guy.

I had the key at position 2. Also getting my top microswitches to respond with the ignition in the aux position took a little coaxing.

So the reissue and legacy Saratoga tops are virtually identical. For you collectors, the legacy tops have a serial number label on the underside. The reissue tops have a seal (gasp!). Also a nice touch, they put some padding underneath the front of the top to reduce noise from the wind deflector.

My legacy Saratoga top came with a brown vinyl case; I don't know if that was part of the original kit. (I also have an OEM removable top case, but I think that is scavenged from my '86 951. I don't know if the '89s came with that.)

The last pic is my legacy top in the shipping box hoping I can convince Pilkington to put a new seal on it someday after you guys buy out the reissues.
