Awesome! Thanks for the update. To say that I'm excited that these are going to be available again is an understatement!

Solar Cool Brz is very good choice. Good neutral color and high performance plus is pyrolytic coating so very durable. SolarCool does come on Azurlite (blue), SolarGray and used to be on Solex/ Antlantica C4 (green) but brz is most neutral. I like. I actually thought of making just one of these for myself a couple of years ago but our tempering equipment can only bend constant radius, no complex or compound radius bends. Glad you found someone with the fixture for an automotive quench.

To all, Chen has taken a new job and will no longer be with Pilkington. Sorry to see him go. Jennifer Wolf , the Engineer who found the toolings has taken over. She has as much or more info than prior. Nothing has changed other wise and the tops are almost there.

Default Saratoga Top Production Update

We will miss Chen at Classics that is for sure...

I wanted to give a quick update on the Saratoga Tops...
  • First off we now feel good about being able to use the Saratoga name on the glass
  • The glass production run is on track and is still scheduled for June... Currently running it with a Corvette T-Top project
  • We are currently working on the seals with a OE manufacturer - They are looking at different materials that could be used as well as extrusion tooling
  • The hardware is sitll on track and I would expect an update from that group soon..

That's it for now,

Best,

Bill George

P.S. I am the Director of Marketing / NMI for our Aftermarket group in North America... please feel free to reply with questions / comments..

Thanks Bill for the detailed update, as I'm sure you can tell, we're all very excited about this project.

One technical question: I and many others have converted our roofs to manual latches. Can you tell me how the rear hardware for the electric roof mounts to the glass? From pictures I've found it looks like there is a screw that holds the hardware in place, is the mount also bonded to the glass?

The reason I ask is that I 'think' I can fabricate something that will allow me to use the latch part of my manual latches but I'll need to be able to remove the hardware that's in place for the electric mount.

Sorry for the long winded question, can't wait!

Hi Bill,

Can you confirm if the sunroof will work 100% with my '91 944? (I'm in the uk hence the question.)

Thanks in advance...

Greg,

Yes the rear mount is bonded to the glass (it is also bolted as you mentioned)... Good thing about being a manufacturer, is that we can choose to not have the hardware attached if you need it that way...

I will try to post a few detailed pictures... we are taking photos at our R&D facility today...

Best,

Bill

I has never heard of such an option on our cars until reading this thread, but have long dreamed of crafting a poly-carb roof for mine that would have the functionality of a glass roof, but be lightweight at the same time. Would that not be a better solution to an actual pane of glass?
