Back in 1994 you could not get a 997tt. I guess you could build one from scratch but the cost would have exceeded $250k.

Would I spend $250k on a 968/951 today? Definately not, cars have evolved significantly in the last 17 years.

Something interesting to point out, I know several guys who hired professional shops to build muscle/show cars. Each of them has over $250k into their cars. I would personally rather have a CGT for that kind of money but whatever floats your boat.

Oh, didn't know you actually got the car new in '94, Soloracer.

I wonder if it's actually less expensive to build a 3L turbo out of a 968... The initial purchase price will be a few thousand more than a 951, but then you'll already have the engine, and virtually the entire rest of the car is upgraded as well. Although unless the plan is to track the car, then probably not, since everything is going to be modified anyways. But for a street car...

What do you guys think?

I don't believe Soloracer is the original owner of the KMR 968.

Do any of you out there have any regrets, sitting on the other side if the fence now?
I just regret selling my first one I bought in 92 and sold in 95......Went from 95 to 2008 without one, worst decision I ever made

But it does make me appreciate this one even more.

Was that a 968, gruhsy? I was still $h!tting in diapers back then ('92, not '08!), so I have no idea if there were guys running 951/(non-stock 968t)'s.

I definately was not the original owner. I have owned the car for about 6 years. The majority of work was done to the car prior to 1999. I believe I am the third or fourth owner.

My only regret is having taken out a 2.5 engine that was performing faultlessly. It doesn't make sense to me working on a car that doesn't suffer from any mechanical issues, that doesn't need more than standard maintenance, and that sits where it just feels together in terms of upgrades.

If I were to do it again I would probably have used a less good donor car.

I've had the same thought in the past Thom. In fact if I had my time again I'd either just build a trackcar from the get go (as there is no point having a fast road car down here), or not do a high performance car based on a 951. As much as I love them and am strangely addicted to proving their worth, they weren't really designed/built for the purpose that I seek. The damn Jap cars are way cheaper and cost a heap less to get double the hp out of. Sad but true....

My regret is to do it right the first time. Long story but 3rd time is the charm or so they say, for me. Not only it would save time but also lots of $$$. There is some strange attraction to these cars for me too- i guess I grew up dreaming about these cars from the magazines (no youtube back then) and could not afford them. All in all, I am content now at 400 to the rears on pump and just enjoying the car on the street. I have moved on to interior updates and such and exterior too if I could find a 968/944S2 factory rear hoop wing (hint hint) so I could do some paint touch up to the car. If I could go back, with the knowledge/resource that I have now, I would keep the original engine and tune it for E85 for high boost all day long...but then 500rwhp sounds tempting also!

Hey Darwin...I remembered you have one but without the center piece or something. Kind of want it to be plug and play if you know what I mean...How is your car running btw?

It was an pristine 86 944 turbo that I had chipped by MCL Porsche in Vancouver. It was a very quick car, the Mechanic that tuned it said it was abnormally fast. I am positive he said the chips were Allan Johnson chips.

It was stone grey metallic with burgundy interior. Bought it in my early 20's

Glad to hear the diaper thing was back then not in 2008

fictional car story in 3...2...1...

should i get a 3.0 engine, or just get that black 968 ??
note: (not the one pictured below, but a regular n/a on Craigslist for $11 K)??

costs more than a 944.... but, it already comes with a 3.0. ... turbo-ing it is epic. but one day you say to yourself- 'hmmm, i'm 3/4s of the way there. guess i wanna get even more hurt...' so you start putting more cool stuff on the car....

it's nice driving for a few years. but there's a baby on the way and wifey asks (to your horror) if we can sell the car.... she's way hot, and doesn't have much experience not getting what she wants.... she's also never seen the build sheets, so.... guy comes over to see but things get fuzzy. the car on the (right) looks like the car on the (left). and--you inform him you require cash stuffed in an old gym bag (after wifey leaves to get her nails....)
