I think you Aussies have too much time and money on your hands. :-)

Just go race the damn thing already....

PS>> I love the work. I just would never have anything fuel related in the cockpit.

Nothing decent since installing the cell, gearbox cooler and repainting. Will have to take some close ups when I get back to Oz from this trip. These are the only shots I have of the current internals from a distance, and the new dash pic I posted previoulsy.

Yep, definitely want to get it out there soon. It doesn't have the wiring actually in the car so it's not going anywhere just yet. Dealing with a few different people means working to more than one set of timelines too.

All Supercar V8s, WRC cars, DTM etc have their fuel lines inside. No chance of damaging them. Certainly I won't be exposed to the potential collisions that these cars are.

Looks nice Steve. Where do you have the ducting going from the naca rear quarter window, back to you?

Yeah... well I have some video to the contrary.... And is the reason why I won't have anything fuel related in the cockpit. It's not the fuel cell that's the problem. It can be crushed and nothing comes out. It's the aluminum lines and fittings that can be ripped out in a violent crash. And when that happens, and the fuel pump is on, it's bad news.

Honestly... if you're going to have fuel lines and fittings in the cockpit, they should be steel.

And there's no reason to run fuel lines through the cockpit. They can be run from a in-cockpit fuel cell, back through the body of the car with a bulkhead, and to where ever from there (under the car)... which minimizes the drivers exposure to fuel.

I'll get off my soap box now :-)

Two ducts on the right side run to the gearbox cooler intake. The cooler is mounted horizontally and air exits under the car. The left side ducting runs to a high volume fan then loops back around the top of the cage to blow in my face.

And there's no reason to run them through the cockpit. They can be run back down outside of the car, up to the front of the car.

Personally I hate having fuel lines in the car as well. I have seen a lot of race cars with them nevertheless. Maybe make sure you have a few extra extinguisher points put in. When I had a tank setup similar to Patricks, I ran the lines from the swirl pot back out through the wheel well to the factory lines. Then FIA rules in Dubai mandated fuel cells and I first got a quote to reproduce the kokeln style under floor cell for $8500 which was out of my budget. Ended up cutting the floor out and sinking the rectangular tank down on top of the gearbox, then running the lines out by the shortest route again to the factory lines under the car. Still don't like having fuel in the car. On my to do list is to install a wall behind the seats to further seperate off the cell.

I've been wondering about the trans oil cooler location. Sitting it horizontal had me concerned about lack of airflow but that ducting through the floor is a great idea. Thanks.

Bit more work carried out over the last couple of days.

Coils mounted behind RH headlight. M400 and unfinished harness dummied in. Control panel moved. New suede covered steering wheel.

Also just starting on the oil lines to the tranny. Find that the oil return line inlet is only -4 which seems way too small. I've sent an email to CMS but does anyone have any idea why they tapped it this size? From the outside it looks to be -8an but the inside has a tube/tunnel which looks like it's designed to go through the rear bearing instead of return oil in front. With the metal plate, glue, and grub screws there seems little chance of that rear seal blowing out if we make the hole at least -6.
Any opinions?

Just a caution, the bare transmission tunnel gets extremely hot. Not the ideal location for the ECU and PDM to bolt directly to. You should possibly look at either another location or at very least some good vibration mounts and heat insulation.

Personally , I used 8AN hoses and fittings for the gearbox pump and cooler.

Agreed, you could cook burgers on my tunnel during a race
