Something blew up

I figured that my super 75 would be the same as your super 53 for connection. I guess not
My banjo bolt is what I used to connect up it work fine with no leaks.
Sorry that did help you out.
Good luck,
Jason

I can't see how you connected the banjo fitting to the new turbo in those pics. My Super 53 has a tapered pipe thread for the water connections, so going with the banjo isn't an option. Dave suggested cutting the pipe behind the Y and use the front half, but that also removes the temp sensor fitting. I am thinking about using a brass T fitting and somehow secure the temp sensor to that T.

Sure, just let me know. Its freshly ceramic coated with Jet Hot Sterling 1700. Oh, and I'm pretty sure it's a /6 housing, not a /8 housing as the PO left this "cheater" 26/6 in place when the engine was swapped. I have no idea what makes it a cheater, but if it's the compressor wheel, that part is still good too.
is this a garrett turbo? If not then I don't think I could do much with it.

Did you get the turbo installed or are you still sorting out the cooling temp sensor connection issue?

I've only had a few hours of garage time this weekend with my mom in town visiting, but I hope to get things wrapped up today. The turbo is mounted with the exhaust all bolted up, so this morning I'll rig up the cooling hoses and hopefully put everything else back in place.

I'm back on the road again. I had to drive 15-20 miles to "clear the pipes" because the entire exhaust system had a coating of oil installed, but all is well for the next 15-20 miles. I haven't hit high boost yet, but I did do a few 12-13 psi 3rd & 4th gear pulls at 1/2 throttle or so... it feels nice and strong so far.
For the crankcase vent, I just ran a 1/2" hose from the AOS to the turbo inlet - no T at this point, and NO smoke at idle. I also replaced the turbo vent hose elbow (was hard as a rock!) with a new silicone elbow from LR. That could have been a contributor to the idle smoke since it may have limited vacuum going to the turbo drain.

Wow you must be a happy man. Congratulations! The car must be like night and day with that new turbo installed. I guess you will notice it more on wot and higher boost. Now I just hope my car is not smoking when I start it up this week.....

Wow, that's a new one on me... I had no idea that hose was there. Another thing to add to the list. Luckily it's only $10.

damn...impressed you turned it around that quick!
I'm guessing even at that boost the car pulled hard, wait till your really moving some air
BTW everyone...Matt is a big dude, how he fits in those tight spots is anyones guess???

Yeah, I can work pretty quickly now that I know some of the little tricks. I actually impressed myself by getting the intake and other paraphernalia off in about an hour, then had the turbo out in a couple more. Going back together is another story, especially with the cooling and clearance mods that had to be done (light fab work), but I didn't hit any major hurdles. I don't have a permanent solution for the turbo temp sensor, but I'll tackle that again soon enough.
I must admit that I am extremely happy that I went with the intake manifold studs and the fancy LR intake manifold gaskets, those items sure simplify the disassembly and reassembly process, not to mention the LR coolant drain hose/valve kit... it's nice not to have to clean up coolant all over the place when you have to drain it!
