Thanks, Jeff! I hope I get it sorted quickly... I'm getting the feeling that summer is fleeting..

It's ALIVE!!

One of my agendas in this rebuild was to check/replace any suspect wiring splices made by the PO... well, I missed one. The PO has spliced into the MAF signal wire with one of the user inputs for the Zeitronix... and the MAF signal wire fell out of the splice. Fixed it, and it started!!

Ran it for a while, let it warm up enough to cycle the fans a few times, tried to burp the coolant (I think I got it, but we'll see) and then shut it down... I'll keep an eye on it while it cools to see if I have any leaks, if not, I'll put the last few things on (PS pump, sway bar, wheels, etc..) and put it down and go take it for a drive.

Congrats! I tried to turn my over this morning and realized I need a new battery. Jumped it and it was trying to fire, but didn't. Gonna put some fresh gas in it and mess with the map.

I'm sure you'll get it. Did you move already?

I'm glad that was a simple fix... what were those darn PO's thinking with crappy splice jobs??!?

I've been baffled by that every time I've looked at any wiring on this car... the crazy thing is that the PO really really took care of the car, he kept up on maintenance, he had very good taste with mods, and in general, treated the car very well. Then there is the wiring... I mean, I know GOOD wire crimpers are not exactly inexpensive, but it's not like they cost a million dollars either... but every one I've found so far looks like the connectors were crimped using vice-grips, by an anemic butterfly...

That's funny! I'm all about stripping, soldering, and heat-shrink... unless heat shrink is impractical, then I resort to electrical tape, but I guarantee you that NONE of my solder joints will ever come apart!

Setback! DAMN! the last thing on my list was filling up the power steering system, and it LEAKS!

The rack is leaking right around the threaded collar shown below.

Any ideas? I'm tempted to Permatex it...

Well, yeah... we wanted to see if starting up two recently rebuilt 951's simultaneously would cause the universe to implode... probably would have if my PS rack and his turbo WP didn't leak..

I fixed it! I fixed it! YAY!! Never mind that it turns out I caused the problem in the first place...

So, I took the rack apart (in the car.. not that hard, really) and examined the inside... everything looked good... then I called Travis at Rennbay and he said I probably didn't have the two halves of the rack pushed together well enough.. so I pushed them together and put it back together.. put some fluid in... and it leaked!

Then, I took it apart again, and looked at it some more... then I pulled the instructions out of the bag (for the first time... I suppose I should have looked at them when doing it, but I was using the online tutorial), and as I unfold them, an o-ring falls out of the folded paper! . So I stare at if for a while... and then realize that I saw an o-ring just like that where the two halves of the housing mate together... So, I grab my dentist picks, and dig it out (read: cuss and yell at it for 45mins)... lo and behold, it's old and hard and cracking. Could this really be my problem??? Then I used the same dentist picks to pop this new one in (read: cuss and yell at it for 45mins). Once I finally got it in, I put the two halves of the rack back together, tightened everything up, and put fluid in... and stared at it for about a half hour. And... NO LEAKS!!!! YAAAAAY!

So, I guess the moral of the story is: read the instructions. There might be parts stuck inside them.

Hopefully that means that I can take it for a drive tomorrow... I would fire it up right now, but the kid's are asleep and their bedrooms are right above the garage, and my car is, um... a touch noisy. Ok, it shakes the whole house.

Hold on... I'm gonna go check it again... STILL NOT LEAKING!!! YAAAY!

Weird... and everything seems... fine. No cataclysm, no rapture, just two 951's not leaking... apparently the fabric of existence isn't dependent upon little spots under our cars... who knew?

I'm glad to hear yours is healthy as well!
