Yes, thanks so much for explaining the pics. It's the turbo heat shield (I thought that's what it was) that I need to straighten out.

And yeah, off to the powder coating shop I will go.

I (obviously) don't see what's wrong with sprucing up the engine bay when you've got everything yanked out. Theres no better time to do it, and with the rust and corrosion I had on most of my pieces, I'd be embarrassed to put most of it back in the way it looked when I took it out. Nobody here complains about shiny paint, fresh leather seats, or cool wheels... why the f**k can't the engine look good too??

I agree with you, Matt. I love the look of a clean and shiny engine bay... the only troubles with it are that it can be expensive, for no performance gain, and that there is a fine line between a good-looking engine bay and a ricey looking engine bay... but when all is said and done, all that matters is how you feel about your car, and I know I feel better about a clean and snazzy engine bay. I mean, let's be honest... we all pretend to be passionate about these cars because of numbers and performance, but the truth is, we are because we love them. And love doesn't understand numbers and figures, all it understands is how we feel. So, do whatever makes you love your car more, who am I (or any of us) to judge your happiness?

Anyway, back on topic, there seems to be a direct and inverse relationship between how close I get to firing up my car and how much crap keeps preventing me from working on it... All sorts of "real world" responsibilities keep getting in the way. All I managed to do today was convert my DME from 24pin to 28pin and wire/plumb in the MAP sensor.... I mean, it's all stuff that needed done, but I was really hoping to fire up today. Ah, well. It'll happen tomorrow... I think...

Awesome, Joel... I've been meaning to call you, but I keep getting caught-up and loosing track of time. Definitely give me a call tomorrow when you're done with your picnic and hopefully I'll have good news

Well, the answer to the ultimate question is: No. It didn't fire right up.

I really have no idea why... it starts but dies instantly....

here's a video:

Any ideas??

My random guess: Sounds like the MAF is not getting power.

Just went and verified switched 12v at the CV plug and at the MAF plug... It was a good suggestion though, I was kinda thinking the same thing.

Still definitely sounds like something is left unplugged.
