which way should i go with this engine build?
ok, so, I have a 2.5L 8V turbo motor with about 100,000 miles on it. I would like some advice from you guys. this car is my daily driver for now and would like it to stay in that category just in case I need it for some reason later. I also want to address the lack of torque. I know the options will be limited because of the displacement. I have a GT30R on my car right now and like how it feels but I have nothing else to compare it too so that were you guys come in.
I want a reliable nice responsive engine I can drive every day and make a good amount of power out of... is 400-450 asking too much? I am planning on using rouges M-tune since I have a friend that knows him and I like the idea of it all. I was also thinking of individual coils? <<I haven’t found much on this mod<<
I would like some ideas on "hybrid" turbo setups... what are you guys running and how do they feel? this will be a slow build and most mods and all work will be done by me so money isn’t that big of an issue but not unlimited....
I am rebuilding the motor completely and will be doing some head work like porting and polishing and possibly bigger valves.
what do you guys think??

to add to this.... I would like to start tracking the car... Auto-X and road racing type stuff.... we have some hill climbs back home in PA that I would like to participate in sometime.... I will be upgrading suspension here while I’m building the motor...

Yeah, don't think you're going to be getting that, especially with track use. Before I put my LS1 in I talked with Chris White about rebuilding my stock motor. For track and DD use with power levels around 360rwhp he basically said I needed a built 3 liter motor, running as little boost as possible.
Something's got to give. You can't have a responsive, low lag, DD, trackable, 400-450 hp motor. Pick two, have a bunch of cash ready and you can make your goal happen.

My first 944 turbo I bought had been totally rebuilt by the PO. It had a 2.5 with a vitesse stage 2, 3 inch exhaust and a lindsey racing stage 1 head and DP wastegate. I dyno'd it at 342 rwhp at 18 psi on pump fuel. That car was a rocket, but still a little sluggish off boost. 400 hp you'd need a 3 liter with some head work.

Order up a set of heads and a nice cam from LG Motorsports. Bolt them up to a junkyard LS1. Drop that in. That should get you to your 400hp mark. Or buy an Evo and crank up the boost.
Or add a Rogue M-Tune setup, enjoy the smoothness and driveability it brings, spend the rest of your money on suspension and brakes... and then enjoy a well-balanced car on the track that can run down cars with a LOT more horsepower.
My car, power-wise, is pretty much stock (26/6 even) and I got the point-by from several GT3's at the last track day I attended.

Yep, Fast isn't cheap, cheap isn't fast and cheap and fast, isn't reliable!
So... pick two. Not seen to many people saying 400+, trackable and daily driver with a 2.5. With that kind of power goal and your other requirements that would make a 3L your best bet!
So..see the first sentance above!

DD for 5 years, some 60 k miles during that time, now just weekend drives and track when I can, this with a 2.7 ltr
Just have fun with the build, find the best combo for power and reliability for you

What is it about guys (or the cars) here not liking going over 20psi of boost? Yet, you hear guys saying "buy an Evo and crank up the boost". They're not indestructible... are they??
My point is, as long as you have the proper tune, knock count is down, and a good HG, what's the big issue after that? There are several guys here that are running far more than 20psi, on E85, yes, but still, 20psi is 20psi.

I personally think you have a good turbo to use if you put a larger hotside on there (not sure what you have but just thinking out loud)
To the point of 400+ hp I think youd want to go to 3l or at least a 2.8 stroker for a dependable track car along with some other upgrades ie; exhaust, TB, IC,intake, headers and the obvious tuning solutions.

20 psi is not just 20 psi fyi . There is much more to it. I have learned that first hand. I have actually logged my MAF voltage and at one point I didn't see any more voltage at 25 than I did at 17 due to too much backpressure.

I for one can't drive a 20 psi E85 fuel burning beast to full potential at the track.
