Yes.

I'd like to see a more real world usable powerband and 550hp though. I think a good power curve with tq to match on a sub 3000lb car making those numbers would be pretty quick even in today's world. Unfortunately getting that out of a 951 is quite expensive and rare.

What really is the point of 700hp? really?
ST proved to everyone that 600 was completly useless on a 951, except for on a dyno, and dyno's lie. How long will 700hp last? how long did 600hp last. by my memory im not even sure ST's 600+ 951 left the Dyno without problems, (a video of Headlift comes to mind). I will happily eat my words if this 700hp 951/(968?) goes out and keeps up with a carreraGT or Zonda on the track

Duke's got that one covered. Just look at his dyno...even at 2000RPM its got pretty respectable torque (even in them forrin' units)

No, the thing ST proved was that building a setup halfway for 8000 rpm is useless when keeping a rpm limit and cam setup for ca 6500 - no powerband.

No need to doubt that 700 hp could be done with a good enough powerband to provide a super fast track, or drag, car. It's done over and over again outside the 944 pond. Look at the Evo that did 1:30 on Eastern Creek last year. They don't last long though

Not at 45psi and upwards. Still I don't think they replaced their motors over the 3 day event...but I could be wrong.

I think the time attack cars (the sierra sierra at least) run at three atmospheres, more like 30 psi than the 45. Last dyno I saw floating around was around 750 at 32 psi, 2.2 off the shelf cosworth block. Doesn't seem to out of reach to me.

To put this in perspective, we are talking about 800 at the crank or 200hp per cyl.

So that is a turbo 8 cyl making 1,600 hp.... Bugatti is only sitting on a 1,000. LOL

But hey, shoot for the stars!

Until someone comes in with a good solution to the heads lifting, we're not going to see anything in the 700 mark unless it's with some serious rpm. People can claim as much as they please, but the reality of it is that most on here haven't tried it. Somethings can't be engineered through logic, as much as sometimes you believe they can be . Billet block could solve the problem. I hope it gets finished, that is, if it exists.

A little late to the discussion, but I'll add in that the 968 based Doom engines were dry sleeved open deck.

His build is #1 on the board right now and the only one of it's kind.

Not open decked....but the fix was pretty crude.

^ I recall it being open deck with one of the cylinders having a chip from the sleeve to the outside of the cylinder tower. Not wanting to use a wet sleeve block, I decided to not use it. It's been several years since looking at the block and I didn't inspect it very closely. It might of had a file fit deck plate, that was not welded in, but I could be confusing that with another block.

Edit: I should mention that the block was dry sleeved, but would require a wet sleeve to remove the damaged area. I did not want to risk the possibility of coolant weeping into the crank case.

So Chris, do you still have the block?
