Yeah - I've read that by Garrett, but the aftermarket communities experience says different.
I think that Garrett simply does not want to have to CNC every wheel they sell - much cheaper to cast them...

Hard to imagine Billet being much better .. but if its made from a forging as several claim to be..well. LOOK OUT ... forged aluminum is impressive ...
have you ever broken one of those RIGID pipe wrenches???

Never thought about the upgraded wheel. I like that idea, though. I assume you've owned a DSM in your lifetime. FP makes some quality stuff.
I don't know if you have your friends new motor all buttoned up or not but you and him should seriously consider sending the GT 35 to FP for a billet wheel upgrade ($ 4-500), worth the effort IMO.

Oil feed line is easy, FYI. And please do it the non retarded way and buy a $20 adapter off EBay like this one, that bolts onto the top of the turbo and gives you a -4AN oil inlet to the turbo. Dont drill and tap the top of the turbo for some POS NPT fitting like some do. Leaves plenty of clearance under the intake manifold with my Vitesse Stage 2.

Pretty much the same thing except ball vs Ceramic bearing. I wonder how big the recommended anti surge housing is.

It does receive some good 'reviews' on other forums, but remember George D had a GTR650 thingy on his car and it was too big and didn't quite work as well as anticipated. This was on his modded 3L too.
I think for CPR he just wants a good all round turbo. I think that we just drive what we have and work around it. How crucial is it that your turbo gets to 1 bar by 3100 vs 3300rpm? If you race and .10ths of seconds are vital, then sure, it's important but in general day to day driving it just isn't that important.
Not that I'm speaking for CP, more that sometimes we tend to look too much to outright numbers instead of overall driveability. Having said that, I love my GT3076 and if this PTE is clearly superior I'd be surprised.

I wouldnt say the GTK650 didnt work as anticipated. It did what it was supposed too.Make big power at 22-24 psi. And I was certain we could have made 600WHP that same day if he had enough fuel to support it.But it was a large turbo and thus very laggy.LOL.John Milledge called me the other day and was telling me about a car he finished. It made 600+ WHP using a Garrett GT42!!!!!!!!!! lol.Now that is a big turbo on a 4 cylinder!

I've been debating between the GT30R and GT35R. I had a GT2554R on a '98 900RR that spooled up instantly, and that's 919cc of displacement. Had the low end characteristics of a diesel, and it screamed up top. I think it was building boost by 5000rpm if I remember correctly, which is obscenely low rpm for a sportbike. For my 951, I've had the goal of 400 to 450whp, but haven't really obsessed over the differences in the turbo maps off the Garrett site.

Those of you with the 30 and the 35, I'm wondering:
- what whp you're running
- at what psi
- what rpm does the turbo begin to come online (transition from vacuum to boost)

P.S. I'm a new guy. Sorry if I need to make a new guy post somewhere. I haven't really strayed from the 951 stuff in the few weeks I've been reading this board & few days since I registered. But this is THE thread I've been wanting to see.

But they also aren't as rigid, which allows them to flex more, making them less efficient. Ever hold a similarly sized T04B wheel next to the T04E wheel? The E's are much thicker, heavier, and they also handle more boost.

Not saying I know one way or another, but I did think that warranted mention. Of course, having said that, I've got a 57 trim E (with Stage III turbine) sitting on a shelf right now.......

I remember YEARS back trying to talk to the Engineering dept. at UCF about any projects they might want to work on; new turbo design/internals.

I could never get any solid response from them. lol

But our discussions were, 7-8 years ago, leaning towards all ultra light weight internals/wheels, i.e. titanium or ceramic, etc.
