Drive shaft damage
Well after years of track days, a few 1/4 mile nights and lots of CV's and a few engine rebuilds. i finally managed to break a drive shaft. looks like the shaft had fractures that may have been there for a while. lucky enough it didnt break at our competition track day 2 weeks ago or next week at our motokhana.
the break happened acerleration in 2nd gear. no hard launch, happened at max torque.

So what is the consensus? Does this happen in one event or can these parts fatigue over time and just one day 'let go' ?

What's the next step up from these. I know this has been discussed before but I don't know if anyone's actually done anything yet?

Thanks David. I guess my question is two fold. Obviously the first being what options we have such as those you've posted. Secondly, there seems to be a lingering question mark over strengthening certain parts of the driveline that could then focus too much load into more expensive and harder to repair driveline components such as gears, lsds, ring & pinions etc...
Do we think upgrading axles and CVs is a good idea in the long run?

I think bracing the trans axle with a adjustable tie rod from low on the trans to up to the rail is worth doing to stop you smashing the end of the cage out but Seans one i think is just years of abuse ...
I will be putting a brace in I'll rebiuld the CV's swaping them around .
I'll use the fancy lock bolt set after what Pat did ...
then if i smash few i will consider cryo treating some ..
but yeh i will remind you it must be the cheapest and easiset in and out part of the drive line
i realy wouldn't consider them a problem ..

I think your right Adam,
if my CVs and shafts can last a few years of track days and abuse then they are a pretty strong part. thats not to say we cant upgrade them. I like the Axle David has posted. My guess is that the bolt pattern is different David? are they the right length?
