If I find a nice 951 for cheap before this guy with the NA im eyeing leaves for cali(has to sell before he leaves),... I'll buy the 51 of course. But there arent any nice ones within a reasonable driving distance. This guy has a really nice NA. It wouldnt be that much harder swaping mysutff into a NA. The only sucky thing is that I have to dismantle his car. thats the hardest part. But aftr I dismantle mine,... doing his will be cake. At that point I'll have 2 dismantles under my belt. Yes I am clinging to my stuff,... because I want to rebuild my engine. I want a fresh engine. fresh tubro. Whats wrong with that?

Charles,

In all honesty after looking at your pics closely it would be easier to replace the quarter , rear body panel and fender than to do a complete shell or especially a n/a conversion . if you could buy a really cheap body as a donor for the rear body panel and quartet pull everything else in place .Replace the torsion tube and control arm . cannot tell how bad the front may be behind the fender but appears ahead of the post.

No matter which way you go your going to spend more time and money after painting in any scenario that has been discussed than what you could buy a running car for.

Trust me I have always done the buy low sell high deal with my projects.

I have owned and operated a restoration shop for 28 years doing all sorts of makes etc. Porsche and Mercedes, Jaguar bing the specialty and my personal owned as well.

Just put a rear body panel on one new, panel from Porsche cost around 500.00 a used quarter is little harder to install but quarters new are expensive the time to trim a used one to reuse may Be worth the time if you could remove it. I have put on used quarters and rear body panels but do not recommend the used body panel, it is really hard to remove and trim out for reuse.

My 2 cents worth .

The NA and 951 'chassis' are not identical.

A chassis is defined as the sum of all components for which the body mechanically attaches to. This includes shocks, springs, bushings, sway bars, steering components, frame, wheels and tyres.

While the base is similiar, the finished package is not.

...and E, he has not taken one bit of good advice from several experienced listers on this very thread. Let him go down his own path, albeit a confused one berift of poor choices, but his path none the less.

Something to consider: I bought an '88 Turbo with low mileage and all the upgrades you would have wanted to make in the suspension department, in perfect running condition (it passed safety a day later) for $1,800. Why? It was dusty, had a bit of a dent in the driver's door, and it had a story.

It was a rolled '88 Turbo, fit into an '86 NA shell. I had to register it as an NA, since that's what the VIN says. Going for the NA (or just an NA shell) could cost you dearly later!

Nothing at all, just wondering the justification in the plan, just as others who are giving good advice are. Seems like you already have a detailed plan you want to follow, and I'm not knocking it. You shouldn't ask what people think if you don't want to hear others opinions and experiences. I'm still watching and hope you succeed, whatever the final plan is.

cv, I think we all wish you the best of luck. I think this is a great project. I realy believe you are misunderstanding people. Most people are just trying to advise that it is cheaper and easier to find a turbo tub rather than an N/A car and swapping. I think it would be very cool to see another n/a-turbo swap however. Good luck and keep us posted.
