951 to 968 Conversion
I have been thinking.
Everyone is trying to put 951 turbo engines into 968s or turbo 968s. Seems like a good idea if you have a 968.
I like to looks of the 968. It seems that the rear bumper and sides can by purchased for a 951 (D9). Now all that is left is fenders, hood, front, lights. Has anyone ever sucesfully put the 968 front onto a 951?
It doesnt seem like it should be that hard to do and maybe even easier than putting a turbo engine in a 968?

Uh Oh is this a sell the 951 and buy a 968 thing?
But really one of the guys here did the rear of the 968, I think thats the easy part, the front is where it gets hard but anything is possible with enough time and $$$.

I thought you were on a budget? Doing this conversion would be impossible and cost a heap of money to try. John Porshhhh did the rear of his white car with the 968 and I don't think it was cheap or easy.

If you find a 968 you like and want a turbo driveline I do have all the bits from a 951S I'm probably going to sell. Engine, exhaust, turbo, plumbing, heat shields, trans, torque tube...
I was going to convert a 968 or S2 cab but ended up with the supercharger setup instead.

Well, we are all on a budget. But I am just "cheap".
No, really, it based upon my other post with the frustrations with the car today (I was thinking this before the shop called).
To answer the budget question, I wouldnt say what I have already done is "budget" (full Vitesse system, KEP clutch, balzack fork, fidanza flywheel, etc). I am just roughly adding in my head what this costs and I have quickly decided I could have sold the 951 and paid for half a 996TT. I was headed that direction a few weeks ago, came to senses, and now thinking I didnt come to my senses.
Maybe when the car is done, I will be happier. A pile of expensive parts doesnt make happiness.

Dana we have a 968 rear you can have for half price in stock at the moment if interested. These thinks take up lots of storage space so we do not like to carry them in stock and this one was made for a customer who crashed his car before we shipped to him in the UK.
The conversion at the front is very easy and as DanR quoted:
... Yes there is a company in the UK who make an entire conversion kit which they did many many years ago - I'll dig out a link and some pics shortly and post up
Basically the front fenders are identical to the 968 just made in FRP. They make them fit by fabricating 2 large triangular brackets which allow the 968 fenders to fit the 944 - cheap and it works perfect. The headlights on the other hand are the problem area which costs the money BUT you can alway use this ...
... For those who have not seen we have launched a 993 HID Headlight conversion for the 968 which again can be bolted up to a 944 with the use of a 968 front PU or an FRP copy:
I'll post some better pics when the car is all back together again and the KW's are fitted as it looks like a Jeep at the moment
P.S. For all those that do not know we are offering 20% discount of all D9 products to RL members until the end of January - I'll post a separate thread for this which will probably be better so if interested then just drop me a PM.
Best regards,
Mark

I did see it done on a car being sold on ebay in the UK about 2 months ago where they had modified the inner fender, so it can be done. Like anything....... it is possible but how easy or expensive will it be

I looked into it with my crash for the front. It aint cheep or easy I don't care what anyone says. If you want it done right that is. I will say Mark knows his stuff and if I was going to do a conversion today it would probably be with his parts if I was on a budget.
If I wasn't I'd use real porsche parts and have everything custom fabbed. That's how my rear end was done and it was just as good as factory(non FB parts).

John your rear conversion was simply a work-of-art mate and I agree that there is no substitute for OEM parts
I did like this one also posted on the S2 board but it did not go down well with the 968 owner:
The 1-piece side skirts let it down a little though as they do not follow the correct 968 lines.
