My tires have a warning not for use near or below freezing. They aren't kidding. I took a short drive to fill the tank at 25 degrees F and it was funny how little boost it took to spin them, in 3d gear. G-force sports. I dont think 305s would make any difference.

With only one wheel spinning the other is able to keep you under control instead of both wheels spinning, yet on the other hand having an lsd would distribute the traction more evenly so that you might not spin at all. Oh well.
Yep, no LSD.

Washing your car? That’s the best you can do? HA! I laugh at your warm weather!

I am 10 minutes from a ski area…3 feet of snow in the last week….
And in the summer I am 1 hour form Watkins Glen…3 hours form Lime Rock, Pocono and Monticello…5 hours from Mosport, Hew Hampshire and several NJ tracks….

And nobody ever, ever, ever says “but it’s a dry heat”

Seriously – on the tire/traction issue – the wider it is the worse the cold traction will be. Serious high performance tires will suck for cold traction.

My most vivid example of this was trying to instruct a real 427 cobra at Lime Rock when it was 35 degrees out!

Yeah, it's sorta a mean trick that the motorhead gods play on us:
There's noticeably more power in our turbo cars with the cold ambient temps, but you can't use it all because of lack of traction.

I wonder if an average performance summer tire would be better than a high end max performance summer tire, when it's cold outside.

I park mine in the winter, the power/weight ratio will always make this car a handful in the winter.

Get a quattro, they're designed to drive in winter.

I have a good set of snows on the Audi S4 - twin turbo boost at well below freezing is fun!

Don't forget - in the cold weather your intercooler is much more effective - that means you'll make a bit more power.

Thats normal in cold weather when the tires are cold, especially with an open diff. You just have to take it easy in the cooler weather.

Single turbo boost in 5in of snow and 15* is fun too! My S4 is rocking snow tires too.

That's not a sky area, it's a bunny hill. Come out west if you want to see a real ski area.

OTOH, Your track selection sounds great.

You never have to shovel heat.
