Default Another maybe not so comon wheel question

FACTS: 86 951, racers early offset arms late hubs, spindles & S calipers, fenders not rolled, 3" ground clearance and KW V3 coilovers

Looking at 17" wheels, two part question

1) Would it make sense to run 17x9 on 4 corners with the specs below?

2) What would be an optimal tire size for track only wheels 17x7.5 and 17x9

These are the wheels i'm thinking of beating around the track. I know there not forged but they're cheap and i'd like to see how they hold up

Thanks!

I think* ~30 mm offset would be more appropriate for a 9" wide wheel on the front.
On my car with stock 16x7 there looks* to be more room on the inside than outside. Stock offset is 23.3 mm so the 9" with 30mm offset would sit OUT ~3/4" more and IN 1 1/4 more.

There is plenty of room on the outside of the stock 16x8 rears so I think if you bought 4 identical 17x9 and 30mm offset you'd need some spacers in the back.

That's my guess and could be wrong!

I run the 9" x17" Cup II ET55 wheels with 255-40 tires on all four corners on my "88 951 for the street. No problems with clearance inside & outside. Note: this is a late model 944 chassis. Looks like your late model hubs might make it work.

I have 17" wheels on my car. Fronts are 17x9 with 6" backspacing. This works fine with 255/40 rcomp tires.
On the rear I have 17x10s with 7" backspacing. I run 275/40 rcomp and they occasionally rub on the front inside of the wheel well, so a 1/8" less backspacing would be just about perfect as they don't rub the fenders at all.

I think 6.85" backspacing would not work on the 86 early offset cars.

No, still early. The control arms dictate offset.

using what is shown on the chart (rims and tire size):
-fronts would need 21mm spacer
-rears would need 28mm or 30mm spacer....you could run upto 265's rear with this set-up

This doesn't really help you Jason but I'll say it anyways.

I really wish wheel manufacturers would make more wheels with our bolt pattern (I automatically exclude 18", 19" and 20s).

There are wheels available for the Mitsu Evo (VIII, etc) that are perfect for what I want except the bolt pattern. (sounds like just what you want also)

For instance: Enkei RPF1 17x9 35 offset 15.9 lbs. or 17x8.5 30 offset 15.5 lbs

From what I can tell those would fit on the front with no spacers. You could put spacers on the rear and have 4 wheels to rotate. They're about $250 shipped each.

Kyle,

There are some Porsche to Ford (IIRC it was ford) bolt pattern adaptors that I have seen only recently. Maybe they have been around a while, maybe not. I am ordering a set in a week or so to see if they are all they are "supposed" to be.

If they indeed work....well, that opens up an entirely new set of options for us in regards to wheels. Although we would have to deal with non-standard Porsche wheel offsets...but that is the easy part.

Keep you posted.
