Default Did 2 piece crossover change from 86 to 88?

A guy in Germany wants to buy my 2 piece crossover, but is concerned that they changed between 86 and 88. Maybe he means they went from 1 piece to 2 piece? Since mine is a 2 piece, it should be the same as his original one right? I really don't think they changed, but we want to make sure before I ship it to him. Cat converter wouldn't have changed either, right? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's his message:
hi alan
i`m not really sure about the 2 piece crossover- does it fit in my 88 951-porsche changed exhaust pipes 85-87 the cataliytic converter has stamp
for officials to show it is the original....
sorry - but i want to be sure to have the right parts for emmision test!!!

There are different types of flanges at the little wastegate elbow connection. Some are attached and some are not

Ok, thanks, I didn't know that. I assume you mean the flange with the 3 bolts shown in this pic of my crossover? So, if his wastegate elbow connection has a 3 bolt flange, then my crossover should be identical to what his was from the factory, right?

There are 2 different types of wastegate elbows for the 2 different styles of "2 piece cross overs"

One has a fixed flange and a slightly bigger ID, the other has a loose flange. I have both styles sitting on my work bench, I can take a few pics if needed so you can compare what you got with what the guy from germany needs

Ah. Just re-read Chris' post and yours Mike, I understand now. Yeah if you don't mind posting pics of both types that would be awesome.

The picture is of the '87 version. The '88 had two types, what is in the picture and the "S" type. The loose flange is the "S" version based on what I have discovered.

Mine has a loose flange, and it's from 86. S as in turbo S? Are you sure about that? Maybe a PO put a turbo S crossover on my car?

The original '86 crossover had an elbow pipe with captured fittings. The "S" crossover has a short straight pipe with no flanges, kind of like a compression fitting. I do not have any pictures, but surely search would turn up some.

Lart, I took a look and it looks like you ad is comparing 1 pc vs. 2 pc crossovers. I think what the guys above are saying is that there are two different types of 2 pc crossovers.

of the 30+ 951's that I have taken apart I have seen only one kind of 2pc crossover and one of the 1pc.

Maybe you haven't parted many turbo S cars? Or maybe they had aftermarket wastegates on them? I don't know, I think it's wierd that there would be two different types of 2 pc crossovers, too.

Sorry for the delay Alan... just got back from school and snapped a pic in the garage.

I have to go through the shelf to find the wastegate elbow and the lights are out (explains the crappy pic) but you can see the 2 styles of 2 pc cross overs.

The left one uses the wastegate elbow that has a fixed flange.

The one of the right uses the elbow with a loose flange.

They are not interchangeable...if needed I have a spare tie in for the style on the left.

slightly more info :

Hope this helps and tomorrow I'll get a picture of the actual wastegate elbows.
