Default will a 24 pin chip work in a 28?

So i just got my new dme, which has a 28 pin chip. The old dme out of the car was a 24 pin. When i ordered my max hp chip, i thought it was a 24. Im just wondering if i put in the 24 pin chip in the 28 if it will run fone and give me the same benefits?

A 24 pin chip will not work in the late DME as is.

Remove B700 and insert the chip according to the '4k' label on the board.

Yes, I believe you can use a 24 in a 28 socket. You leave the last 2/4 pins open (furthest away from the notch). I am sure John can chime in and confirm. Or maybe it is vise versa, with a 28 in a 24, you leave the last 4 legs hanging off....I cant remember.

You are thinking about the chip/board which works in both 24 and 28 pin DMEs.

You can convert easily between 24 vs. 28 pin DME with a jumper / switch like Transaxle said. Instructions are here http://www.the944.com/88_to_86.htm
