Ya know, in all honesty "cheap", and Porsche dont belong in the same sentence really. Hell, they dont belong in the same novel. If your looking for "cheap" please do yourself, and those of us trying to preserve what integrity the 951 has left a favor, and buy a vette or something similar. No offense. It may be just me, but anyone looking to just plug a 500hp v8 into ours cars fail to see the finer points of a porsche. Im all for power, but a little goes a whooooole lot further in our cars, than the hunk of crap, the v8 was pulled from. The weight difference means that the muscle car needs 500hp to be bad, where as the 951 doesnt. IMO for street I wouldnt push more than about 400 in our cars, regardless of what engine im running. Even at 400, your probably faster than the muscle car with 500. Power to weight is everything IMO.

you should suspend trollers who come into posts that are about facts and start putting people down... i'm going to be spending a lot more time on porschehybrids.com because of your rude site sponsors and other users that YOU SUPPORT
if this is YOUR SITE then its UP TO YOU to set the example of how people are treated
i didn't pay good money to come get crapped on by a bunch of jerks with 25 year old cars who don't know left from right to start with.

I haven't read but just the first page but I got $12,000 just in my bottomend. So if you can do a v8 swap for 10K so be it but to me it's not a porsche anymore. I personalty don't think it will be as much fun as the boosted engine .

care to list the parts and average prices and what your end hp/tq is predicted to be?

It does? Wow, houses must be really cheap where you live. Anywho, like I said, if your looking for cheap, you have the wrong car. There is more to a car than an engine, and really, I would argue, whether a GM v8 is any more reliable. Cheaper for parts, and to buy. Yes thats true. If you want a v8 buy a vette, or a camaro, or a trans am, your missing the finer points of a car like a 951. Some of us like boost. Some of us like pushing 4 bangers.

what are the finer points? as i see it you don't loose anything with a v8 except for turbo lag
lol i live in southern california so i was talking about a house in nevada or somewhere else
the one guy has $12k on the bottom end so as someone on this post said... people are putting in $20,000 to $50,000 on their engines to get around 300-400whp
where i could have taken my $500 944na that i got for $550 to the guy who will give it a v8 for $7,000

Im somewhat familiar with the renegade hybrid kits. Ask them what your puny NA transaxle, and suspension will do in response to all that power. Aint no GM hybrid crap to help your budget there. You have a Porsche, it was not designed to be cheap, thats VW.

its an audi transmission and a mitsubishi engine

Some of us like the kick in the pants called "lag". I live in AZ, some of the cheapest real estate, a 10% downpayment is about 20k. You could get reliable, purebred, 400whp for that kinda money no problem. For some of us this is about pushing the envelope, plugging in a 500hp v8 isnt pushing the envelope, a 3.0 400whp, reliable 4 banger is. Thats porsche IMO. Doing things they say cant be done with those "puny" engines.

I am just running just a 2.5L but it's capable of running 33PSI of boost. That is the reason for all the money in the my engine. You can do it for less but I don't plan on going into it anytime soon and I also do not run it at that high boost levels all the time. The 951 is capable of destroying MANY cars on the road even by todays standers with 18-21PSI of boost is IMO and after 22PSI you have the issues of tremendous wheelspin. Other people went with more displacement in the 951 motor I went with higher boost levels and higher revs.

First of all I fail to see your point. Second, audi or not, not even audi are designed to be cheap. Third it is not a mitsubishi...your smokin dirt. If memory serves. The engine has two counter rotating balance shafts, actually developed/invented by Lanchester, who was a brit. Mitsubishi modernized it, and patented it. If porsche wanted a smooth 4 banger in those years well they had to pay mitsubishi....they owned the patent at that time. Nice design...that doesnt make it a mitsubishi engine by any means tho.
Can be done for less than that, many variables determine that tho.
