A quick update

I'm just working out costs and suppliers at the moment so hope to have the completed info shortly.

Below is a picture of the OEM Cup hood pins:

I have found a company who will make 100% exact replicas of these based on there current product:

The above will be finished in the correct gold finish (zinc plated yellow chromate) with the correct length shaft.

Below is a picture supplied by Colin of the actual pin fitted to the Cup FRP hood/bonnet (Thanks Colin ):

And below again is another picture showing the OEM mounting bracket:

We will make sure that the brackets are as close to OEM as possible for the budget as this will be a low volume manufacturing run.

I will also make sure that the brackets will offer retro fitting for people that would like to run a more modern quick release system and ensue the kit also works for the 968

Those wanting a more modern fittings ... Then kit will be adapted for this:

or

More so for the 968

Cheers,
Mark

Look lovely don't they

They are made by a company called AeroCatch - More info here: http://www.aerocatch.com/ Made in the good old UK.

They can be purchased in the US here: http://www.aerocatch.net/ $82 or $92 depending on which version so good price to.

What I like about these is that they are flush fit for aerodynamics and also feature locks so you don't have to worry about leaving your car out on the street.

Would you be going with the top or bottom mount Aerocatch latches? They'd look great as bottom mounts, IMO.

I assume they can be run in an 'unlocked' mode so in the case of a fire you don't have to be fumbling around for the keys?!?

Trust me, you want top mount aerocatch pins. The bottom mount ones NEVER look as clean as you cant use the lip of the latch to hide where you had to cut the hood. I have several friends who have the bottom mount ones, I have top mount and mine look 100x better.

Pat, they make them in a non locking version.

I found a couple of others not as race car as the aero latch but smaller one is 45 by 21 mm and maybe the turn stlye ones could grab the underside of the front guard of header panel retangle is not as nice but small . I would think not as strong as the aero.
what are those ones that look like a 40mm flate head srew driver head flush in the bonnet and you can use a large coin to open them ?

Pending photos and final info on the final product, I am very interested. Thanks for working on such special parts for these cars!

Partrick - Yes mate the AeroCatch can be run unlocked at all time.

Mike - We will ensure that the fit and finish is 100% perfect so we will run with bottom mount for a cleaner flush fit Yes you are right they do supply non-locking also but as they can be run locked or unlocked it's work going with the locking version.

but surely give your careful cutting the holes and you do the paint after woods??? although flush there just so big
GT37VGT - No cutting will be required and we will mould the holes in the FRP Hood

Thanks for the Heads-Up mate

OK, Just to clarify the project ...

There are 2 projects we are developing here:

1. A replica of the OEM Cup hood/bonnet including hood pins and brackets
2. Produce a FRP hood/bonnet which incorporates our heat extraction vents (flush fitting) and also the inclusion of the AeroCatch locking latches plus mounting brackets.

First we will do the OEM style Cup Hood design as this is primarily for Colin's Cup replica car and once that is complete then we will move onto the second hood/bonnet project.

Cheers,
Mark

Do you mean a 968 Turbo S style scoop behind the intercooler? That would be cool.

would the replica cup hood fit a non-turbo car (like, maybe say a 924S)? I might be interested in that for my car (although I'm not building a 951 cup replica or anything cool like that, unfortunately, I just want to shave some weight)

Also, is there any chance you might in the future make brake duct scoops to fit in the fog light openings of 924/944n/a euro bumpers? That's another product that I for one (and probably others as well) would be interested in
