Simple Build
Hey guys,
I am new to using fourms and stuff so please correct me if I am wrong here.
I was looking to do a simple build 3.0L block from an S2 2.7l 8v head with standalone and a small turbo. I am looking to do most of the work myself so I want to go up in stages and I think this is a good first stage. maybe even cams?
What are your thoughts, any part recommendations, turbo kits? What can that engine handle in terms of power and torque same with trans/clutch. I appreciate all the help my name should really be 944noobengkid haha

You should start a build thread on this project. 3.0 S2 block and 8v head is a good place to start. I like megasquirt for the stand alone and turbo selection is probably something the other guys here can help you with.

Have you sourced an S2/968 block and crank yet? Those alone will cost a pretty penny. Have fun!

Do you even have a car for this project yet? If you are thinking of installing this 3.0 into to a NA 944, I'd rethink that idea. Not to rain on your parade, but "simple build" and "3.0 turbo" do not go hand in hand. If you haven't yet, please read this entire thread to get an idea of the parts and costs required. While I appreciate your enthusiasm you do come across as a bit naive at what this project will entail, and more importantly, what it will cost to do it correctly. You can get plenty of power from a 2.5 944 turbo at a much lower cost.

I should elaborate I do have a 1989 S2. I am looking to understand more what the bare bones 3.0T build is like, what power to expect, any "kits" I do appreaicate your criticism though. What are typical parts people buy, crank senor, MAP, knock things that can't just be found anywhere type of thing., Thanks!

What's your budget, time frame, mechanic skills skills.
do you weld?

Not sure what the budget is, ideally as low as I can achieving 350whp and has to have a standalone. The whole idea behind this build is the experience behind it to feed me into being a better engineer. Most new engineers now are not mechanically inclined, so I am aiming to separate myself a step at a time. I don't know how to weld, but when there is a will there is a way and someone to help

Ok, here is my thoughts.
Don't go this route if you don't have 10-15k$ for this.
Keep your car a runner, swap exhaust, suspension and enjoy your car.
I'm 30k in my 951 and inclining... And 6 years.
If you must build an engine, build it without making your runner a garage queen.

I have been, I like the dyno sheet LR is posting for the 65 as spool up is my main concern. And it is also the easy button with it being bolt up to my 951 header and exhaust. I love the idea of a twin scroll B-W unit but not sure I have the time and patience to accomplish that.

My 1990 S2 is highly modified with completely different suspension, brakes, wheels & tires, etc. and a few minor engine mods (ECU chip and Cargraphic exhaust). It's a lot of fun to drive, especially on the track. You don't need a ton of HP to have some fun.
