Default Exhaust smell out of AC vents when full boost ??

I am thinking vacuum leak , but where to look ?? It seems only under hard acceleration boost conditions. Thanks for any suggestions...

check the seal on top of the firewall, other than that, are you sure your hatch/shifter seals are good?

Check for exhaust leaks,
I have been having this issue and I have a good leak on the crossover pipe. I hope to fix this and then see what I have.

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Turned out to be the cap on the CO testport was cracked and would open up under boost.

Will do, i thought maybe a vacuum diaphram under the dash in the HVAC system, it is defintely coming from the vents, not in the car.

Were you running the aircond at the time? Could be the one way valve on the vacuum line to the box where the aircond fan is located. If the valve is faulty, the flap for recirculating air (flap is held closed by vacuum) will move when shifting gear under high boost. If the valve is totally worn, you can even hear the flap open and close. If only partially worn, it will open only slightly and air from the engine bay will find it's way into the cabin via the aircond vents.

Here's one that I had recently... Have you removed and reinstalled the turbocharger? if so, did you use loctite?

after my turbo replacement, (about 6 months after) I started getting an exhaust smell in the cabin... I finally went to investigate, and found that all 3 of the 4 nuts holding the downpipe to the turbo were loose, and the 4th one was MISSING...WITH THE STUD. I got a new stud and some new nuts, replaced things, loctited things, and magically, the exhaust smell was gone. go figure...

I am having this problem as well. I only smell the exhaust when I am under boost. Just after I get into boost, maybe 2-3 seconds into it, I'll start smelling exhaust fumes.. then it dissipates once I let off and returns again as I get back on the boost under acceleration. Did you find the cause on your car? I was thinking maybe crossover pipe or something, but even at 100+ mph it occurs, so I have a hard time believing that the exhaust from under the car would still quickly make its way into the cabin with the 100+mph wind pushing it out from under the car and away.. So, something must be in the car somewhere...

edit.. just realized this was from 2008.. i just looked at the date '04-28' and thought it was recent.. but still. I'd be curious if dave, you found the issue, or if anyone else has some insight!

My car's interior smells like gasoline in general. Under hard loads it gets worse though. I'm pretty sure it's an exhaust leak though.

I taped up the recirculating vents at the air cond blower (engine side) - helped a little but still get a whiff of exhaust during boost. Thinking about it, it's probably mostly at higher speeds (80mph+) and under boost....
