Default Well the battle begins......Well now ended. Parts for sale.

Insurance company totaled the car. They offered me a settlement of $10,200. They started with a base price of $7900 and the extra was for my upgrades. I asked the guy what cars they used to compare my car to and they only had one listed and it was at a dealership in Englewood CO. I asked the guy straight up if he thought that he could go buy my car any where in the country for $7900. He laughed as he was the one that looked at the car. He has been pretty helpful so far. He offered to make some phone calls with regards to the comparables and said that he would explain the situation to his supervisor and ask for an independent appraisal.

They haven't given me the salvage price yet.

Which dealer? I live in Englewood and could go take pics of the car if necessary to varify the comp.

I know insurance sux after dealing with my stolen 951 last year.

Do you have a copy of the last Excellence appraisals...wasn't 88 around 11,200 for excellent condition? Then add your upgrades at a minimum!

He told me, but I don't recall. We can probably find it on Autotrader though. I'll be sure to ask him the next time I talk to him. Thanks.

That only works if they use Excellence and a source for their prices, which apparently they don't.

But you should be able to use it to show them "just cause" if you will, can't hurt to have there to help the final check.

I will, and I've also started printing off cars that I think compare. I'm also looking into getting my own appraisal done.

If the buy back is a good enough deal, would be worth getting it back and swapping your goodies with the new car, then having LOTS of extra parts!! Short of the loss of your great car, and time it would take to swap everything around, this may work out in your favor better than you think! Keep your chin up! Good luck!

Kevin, good luck with the insurance. They never like adding much on for improvements. Were all the mods declared? In UK if you don't declare every mod even down to wheel nuts you give the insurance company a way not to pay your claim/ i have even heard of claims not being paid when a vehicle was parked and a truck wnet into the side of it. The insurance assessor came looked at the car and found that 2 tyres were not of the correct speed rating. Even though the car was not moving at the time of the incident they refused to pay out the claim as the car was not quipped correctly!
Whatever happens negotiate hard on the salvage it may be the only way to get value

All the best
Tom

Best of luck Kevin.

This is one of my hopefully never realised nightmares.

Do you not have any agreed value policies there? Here we have some specialist insurers who will agree on a value that includes your modifications. You get choice of repairer and rights to the wreck if it is written off.

Best of luck anyway... it may be worth getting an independant appraisal and playing hardball.

You have agreed valuation on classics but any mods are subject to an engineers report. I have heard of people being charged the equivilent uplift of $200 a year for 968 mirrors handles and spoiler. So for a MAF chips suspension engine mods you could be loking at uplift of £5-600 on a £350 policy That is for a driver of £35 years with no endorsements on his licence. In Uk nobody uinder 30 can afford to drive these cars due to the insurance

Isn't it the norm to buy the car back for 10%, I think if you take 9180.00 you can keep the car right?

Now it would be sweet if you could find another 3-5k from the insurance
