Are 944 Turbos at a Disadvantage in PCA Club Racing?

Oh good. I thought this thread died.
Geoffery don't forget that 928's are the best racing platform of all the cars Porsche designed. This is important to atleast TWO people to date.

I am speaking for myself, not on behalf of the committee here. The proposal was put out last year (2006), so this should not be new news to anyone. The proposal went out during the 2007 annual rules process for comment, if you didn't comment then, you really don't have anything to complain about. The alternate proposal was to increase the turbo multipler and that would have had the 944T guys screaming. This rule change affects everyone. I hear what you are saying about advance notice and there may be some merit in giving time for people to form a game plan. But, we are where we are, and I don't see the urgency to make radical changes. See how 2008 plays out and see what the "it car" for each class is. Basically most of the 944Ts will run in GT2 and the only existing 911 competitors will be 2.1l twin turbos which really haven't proven themselves (in part due to reliability and driver skill IMO) and potentially a 2.6l 911 of which I know of one. And, for the record, it looks like the 2.1l 911 turbos will move from GT4 up to GT2, a two class bump.
Most people resist change, I encourage you to embrace it. Get creative, by destroking a 944t, running it with light weight, and it will likely be able to beat a GT3 car like mine.

Before jumping to any conclusions based on lap time, you should be aware that some of the GT3R cars are not in the same configuration as they were last year and have been optimized for the rules which would have made them run in a different class last year. I weighed a number of cars at the event. Second, I didn't not see a single 944 Turbo prepared to the level the GT rules allow, and they may not have been driven to the same skill level as some of the other big name, well respected, very fast 911 drivers. Be sure you have all the facts before making your conclusions, lap times don't begin to tell the story.

I would say that while they don't tell the whole tale, they do 'begin' the story...

And that would be what? I don't even see any 944 Turbos listed in GT1, 2, or 3R or S classes. The one I remember seeing showed up late, ran some, but I think retired early.

Non of the "big guns" turned up at RA or Sebring , i will note that Musante's time at sebring this year was 2 seconds slower than the current 944T turbo lap record time based on last years rule.
RA is more a chassis /drivers track than a BHP track( where the 951 excels) and in the past the 944 T's where not as well prepared in GT as there 911 counterparts ( most of them ) but used a big bhp advantage to run competitively. Based on the current rules a 2 L 951 would dominate gt4 and quite possibly run faster times than current GT3 .....

Well that's a bit different then. If basically one guy turned up and late, then that's not what I'd call a controlled comparison.

the point is
we are talking about road atlanta times, and a gt3r car ran a 1:28 something at road atlanta - the best 944t could do a 131 last year or ever, also while 911's can optimize them selfs by either adding or subtracting weight and or engine displacement 944t's are not afforded such a luxery with the 200hp per liter pp

I will also say that a lot of these 911 are well prepared most of the 951's are not and at this level, the driver makes a big difference at a track like RA.

Honestly, how many of the turbos are we talking about. I was talking to a friend today and was wondering how many 951s are even involved in GT racing. How many can it possibly be?

Perhaps they wil achieve what they set out to then?
