Default Vibration in rear at 155

I was out test driving last night and while passing a
AMG Merc. I had a vibration start at about 155 through 165 or so.
It feels like the pass side rear.
Think it's just a tire or should I look deeper?

Tim, find a dyno to take it to, see what the top speed of it is and see if you can repeat it on the dyno instead of the road to see if you can feel it. Having been at that speed, both with and without belly pans, belly pans help the car to stabilize at that speed, just a thouhgt.

Last tire balance, any tire pressure deviation, lug nuts all torqued, CV joints all torqued...how old are the tires?

Have the tires rebalanced and also check thier speed rating. I have had my car topped out at 172 mph indicated and it drove quite smooth and stable so I know these cars can handle the speed just fine.

If it were a wheel bearing or drivetrain issue, the vibration should have been noticable much before hitting 155 mph which leads me to thinking it's a tire/wheel issue.

tire balancing would show up well before 155.

not necessarily. maybe he lost a weight at 147.2 mph.

Seriously, the shop could have been off the balance, fine at 80, 100, 120 then it started to show. There is indeed a difference in tire balancing machines.

somewhere there is a video that bridgestone or someone made that shows how badly a tire gets out of round at certian speeds. I was amazed when I saw it. Even shows the diff between your average S/T rated tires and the W/Z type tires.

My feeling on the speed rating issue is that if it were a speed rating issue, at that speed, you would'a been feeling it front and rear, and not to mention been all over the road. My guess would be that the CV shaft (not joint) is so very slightly not straight, that at 155, it showed up. Would take a dial indicator to even find it.

Just go faster than 165. Problem solved!

The tires are Bridgestone S03's 50% tread left.
I regularly torque the lug nuts. I haven't checked the CV's
since putting them in a couple years ago. I'll check them.
The wheels were balance using the stick on weights, so it's likely one of those came off.

I had reinstalled the Tial wastegate again (it comes loose once a year) and had the computer hooked up checking the
AFR's and lookiing at the EGT's.
We were going just speed limit until the Merc. came along
and started playing, enticing me to run with him.
This seems to happen alot.

perhaps just a responsible enthusiast sick of irresponsible idiots that think they have a right to jeopardize the lives of everyone else to get a thrill. If I have you pegged right you were probably on your way home from the bar...... I would not be the slightest bit surprised.

seriously - you wonder why anbody would get bent out of shape????
Supose you need to see first hand death and dectruction before you get it. Perhaps kill your best friend or maybe a 4 year old that has not yet begun to live life.... maybe an entire family.

done wasting time on you

very well said, 155 is off the charts-dangerous, during the day on the track, much more dangerous at nite on city streets.

Thanks David

Jumping to conclutions about people without any background
or knowing what the circumstances were is irresponsible.

For your info. I had a brother killed in an accident. A drunk driver crossed lanes. My brother was in a Fiat X19. enough said.

Needless to say I don't drink and drive. I don't go to bars either.

There is a new highway loop being built around Nashville.
A section of it is open at the west end, about 10 miles of road. It's never used much. I'm usually on it by myself.
It runs through the country.

As far as driving ability, I've been through the Skip Barber
race school, driving clinics, lapping days etc. I have numerous trophes on my book shelf.

I agree 100% that street racing on city streets, town roads,
crouded highways is wrong and you won't find me doing that.

I wish you the best and hope you get over whatever it is
thats bothering you so!
