What should I do next to pull engine?
Well Ive been slowely tearing this thing down for the past 2 weeks (hour here, hour there).
I have so far:
-the radiator fans out
-power steering pump disconnected
-most/all coolant lines in front disconnected
-Intakemanifold/TB off car
-All intake hoses,lines
-and most wire harness's disconnected.
I am wondering...out of all tubes/wires agianst center of firewall, which ones do I need to disconnect? Its a total Cluster F*ck and its hard to see what really needs to come off.
Is there any trick to disconnecting the torquetube? Do I just unbolt and then pull engine forward then up when its dissconencted?
Whats the easiest way to deal with hte exhaust/turbo? SHould I jsut disconnect the downpipe and wastegate tube? I have access to the turbo so disconnecting it shouldnt be that hard?
TIA
-Jace

Which way are you going?
A lot depends on which way you are going?
Do you plan to pull the engine from the top? Or drop it from the bottom?
Do a Rennlist search and check out what others have done.
Because of garage overhead space I dropped my engine from the bottom.
It was done completly alone one person no outside help.
I plan to also reinstall the motor from the bottom.

pull harness from dme/klr under ps floor
pull through firewall, drop front suspension with engine still connected.
Do a search theres alot of good advise already out there for how to pull the motor.

Is it alot harder to pull from the top? Im trying to go the "only disconnect/take off what HAS to come off" way. SO I thought that doing it from the top would be best. But I do see how doing it from the bottom can save some frustration and give you access to certian bolts.

If the hood is already out, go out the top. If not go out the bottom. The bottom is easier, I've done both. If you decide to go out the top be sure to pull off the crank pulley so you don't hang it up on the hood latch.

ANother reason why I was going to go from the top was that I only have 1 car jack, a engine stand and hoist. I dont think I have the neccessary tools/lifts for dropping it from the bottom.
9fiftty1: In your avatar you painted your block. IM going to do mine in silver, what process/paint did you use? did it last along time?

The issue with the top is you need to pull the motor forward 8" and doing so can catch the cam gear under the radiator support. Then you need to really twist things to get it clear. I have done 4-5 engine pulls 1 out the top the rest out the bottom. Out the bottom is easier by a long shot. With one helper I pulled an engine from an NA in about 3-4 hrs.

I believe its 21 inches but thats assuming you will already have removed the control arms and your just going to slide it out the drivers wheel well. Probably needs to be a little higher if you want to come straight out of the front but nothing crazy

A thorough cleaning for prep. I mean thorough. I also baked the block to 180 degrees for 15 mins to bring the grease to the surface. Then cleaned it once more. Have fun taping it off....
I haven't ran it yet...soon. As long as you get the correct paint (high temp) and it's prepped correctly, it'll last.
