Unhappy turbo failure

209k miles, it finally happened. stock turbo-s turbocharger failed at 5krpm while pushing 18psi of boost.

the first sign that something was terribly wrong: oil where there shouldn't be oil;

oil where there definitely shouldn't be oil;

the intercooler is a great place to store all that oil. wait, there shouldn't be oil there either;

oil: it's what's for dinner;

anybody have suggestions for a turbo upgrade and/or rebuild? is there anything out there that works on the 951 and is capable of 400whp with sub-3krpm full boost spool ?

who's good at rebuilding turbos? can they rebuild to zero-clearance specs? so many options, so little time.

Nize - that is a TALL order.
Seriously - there is a lot of talk on this forum about spoolup from guys who can't appreciate the difficulty of a turbocharger that can do what you ask.
Naturally, the sooner it spools, the sooner it will start making heat becuase of the exhaust configuration.
The only 951 (KKK backside) that I have seen come close to this is the Vitesse stage 2. You will need higher boost levels to hit 400 RWHP and the backpressure might creep a little bit, but it will spool like you want with stock exhaust pipes between the head and turbocharger and no leaks.

You can do your math homework and design something around your goals, but it won't spool like his turbo - you might make more top end, but not the spool.
His stage 2 is like a supercharger on the bottom end.

yeah, there was literally a 'fog tunnel' half a mile long and so thick that you couldn't see four feet in front of you. quite a sight.

this would be a great james bond style mod, minus the failure part.

That poor 951 S, it needs a good home. You should sell it to me. Check Linsey, CALL vitesse, or check out speedforceracing.com. A stage 2 would be nice, but I think you should know that you may want to upgrade other parts while this is going on. If you cant then you may not notice all the power that stage 2 has to offer. Good luck.

- Stage 4 and 5 - Will be custom order only.

- Water Injection - I have been testing many setups, I have narrowed it down to two systems. Fail-safe is fairly involved to design and test. Work will continue, no release date.

- 944S2 MAF kit will be offered as a limited production run.

The weather is getting warm, start enjoying your rides.

Hey Nize - what a mess, that will take some cleanup!

rebuild may be an option. I have a local deisel specialist shop that has rebuild numerous turbos for me. When I contacted them on KKK rebuild was told about $325.

May want to check your local diesel shops if rebuild is a consideration.
