the question is; how did the hot side turbine fit through the hot housing? normally the turbine blades are too big to fit through the opening leading to the downpipe.

Sell it as a core to someone that watns to rebuild their own. It will save on the down time.
How can they make is as new when the turbine blades machines some of the housing off?

i don't know, but it's a reputable kkk-authorized shop and it does come with 1year warranty. they will basically replace all internals with brand-new kkk parts. i'm not sure enough housing material was actually removed to make any difference.

I suspect you are getting a new-used housing in that price.
Tough descision. That is a good chunk tword an aftermarket turbo, but then you open the upgrade can of worms. To really get optimal benefit from new turbo, you need more fuel, MAF, injectors, chips, pigyback controller, etc, etc, etc, next thing you know your turbo upgrade is a $4k ordeal.
If you were 100% satisfied with stock performance - then why not just have it rebuilt and be done with it.

update:
removed the head and hand-cranked the motor. it turns, though there's a very slight bit of resistance in places, which i'm assuming is normal as the cranks need to push the pistons up. TDC across all pistons appear to be identical, at least visually and by feel. no funny noises, and the crank really is pretty easy to turn by hand so i'm hoping there's no rod/bearing damage.
the head is in the machine shop today being cleaned and checked for straightness (it should be okay). i should get the head back tomorrow.
the widefire head gasket did not blow.
a new custom plug-and-play upgraded turbo with the garrett dual ball bearing center cartridge is on the way.
expecting to make 350whp/wtq with full boost at 18psi by 2700rpm. i guess we shall see.

The reason I ask is because I have a duall ball bearing 50 trim/#8 and I don't get anywhere near that kind of spool up with it. Mine is more like 15 psi @~3k and 18 @ ~32k (non data logged numbers for now).
