G96 had the pinion failure that is common to 968's and swapped the broken 6 speed to Joe Chen?? for a 951 5 speed. I think Joe Chen?? also has a 968 with a turbo installed. The car was done on a limited budget and was never really sorted out. The car was featured in Excellence along with another more radical 968 turbo conversion. Both cars were California cars. G96 sold the car a couple of years ago and it was taken out of state. I was told the guy was going to spend some $ and do it up properly. I do not know what happend to this car.
To finish up the story. The car was bought by Jay Wellwood. It blew the headgasket soon after he bought it. The car is in pieces and Jay has been woking on other stuff before he converts it to an 8 valve setup.
As far as the rear wing, its a replica, not a factory turbo S wing.
Regards.

I purchased my 94 cab stock and then decided to do a turbo conversion. After a lot of research and questions I ended up buying a 951 doner with 30,000miles and a 944 2.7 N/A head. That seemed to be the most cost effective way to turbo the 968 3.0 engine. I installed two hood latches on the sides so the intercooler could fit like the stock 968 turboS. Next on my list is larger turbo and fuel upgrade for even more power. Very Fun project! The 968 is absolutly amazing now.

There is a number down here in Australia
Peter Fitzgerald has built a few, to original spec (they have competed as such)
Also at least one 16V that I know of, and I am putting together a 16v myself,
there is no semblance of financial sense involved in mine.

anyone know where the additional stiffness comes from? i thought under the sheet metal the Turbo S+ and the 968 were virtually identical?

Think the stiffness comes from evolution, no way are they even near identical.

Slightly higher aerodynamic drag coefficient than the 951, for one thing... Then again, when the Ferrari Testarossa came out back in 1984 with those huge gills, it reportedly had a higher drag coefficient than the curvaceous 512BB it superseded.

I don't know what they did, as you say they look similar, but they drive differently, the chassis just feels different

do I count? lol. Looking for a beat up, used, cheap six speed gearbox with all the parts to convert my five speed to the six. Cheap and well used as it is going to be rebuilt anyway.

wow...the 968 must be something else if your stock one feels a lot better than your modded 951.
