currently found a set of very nice condition kinesis k28's.
front Wheels - 18x8 - Offset ET55
Rear Wheels - 18x9,5 - Offset ET48

my questiion lies with the rear offset. is that too aggressive of an offset to run on the rear of an 87 944 turbo?

You may find your answer there. If you do a search on your question you will find the advice that comes to the conclusion that rear can go to 11" if the ET is 65, or better yet 70 to get more of the wheel and tire under the sheet metal.

I'm sure someone here is running, or tried, that 18x9.5 ET48

thank you, that post was very helpful. it looks like the offset should work according to some of those numbers. does anyone have any experience with this particular set up...18x9.5 with 48 offset? for now i'm going to continue to use the search function and find some more info

I have used 18X10ET47, 18X10 ET40, 18X10 ET65 (with/without 7mm spacers), 18X11 ET45, amongst others, all on an 89 Turbo

In my opinion the 18X10 ET 47 were the best. ET 65's are too large an offset and keep the wheel too far in. I use 7mm spacers on ET 65 wheels but even then, they are really too narrow (in my opinion). ET 40's and 45's force the wheels out a little far and theres a risk of a rub on the outer fenders. The 55 front 48 rear on the Kinesis is just about perferct (again in my opinion).

I like to use the Porsche wheels as they are cheap, light, strong and readily available, but you have to work with the offsets available.

My pereference would be to get a set of the one piece forged BBS wheels 8.5" fronts and 10" rear, but for now I'll run Porsche wheels.

thanks for the info. im hoping to make the rear wheels as flush as possible and if im not happy with the fronts i can always get spacers. i was just worried the outer edge of the tire would scrub up outer edge of the fender.

So if you wanted to run 11" on an '89 model mainly for track days ie with some neg. camber, would you say that about et 50ish would be ok? I don't want to run spacers and I can get Simmons wheels custom made here. I would like to run 11"s if at all possible with 295's or 305's tyres?

with the correct offset a 295 or 305 would fit all day long on the back of a 951. i thought a 275 on the back was baller until i saw a DE 951 here in town with 305's on the back and 275's up front

I wonder what year model that was? Plus if it was running neg. camber although you may presume so if it was tracking? It could also have had some guard mods done, but I live in hope as I think I'll need the extra width up from 285's

I'm interested too guns but it would totally depend on what year model as they changed almost every year for some reason. They increased the track all the time.

i honestly don't remember, i wish i did and i wish i knew the guy that had them. i saw the car at a local pca autox last spring.

guns...you seem to know a lot about different wheel offsets and what not. can you answer my original question of offsets? my car is an 87 and the wheel in question is a kinesis k28 18x9,5 et48. b/c of the et48 im affraid the rear wheel will be too flush with the rear fender and may cause some scrubbing. any thoughts

If 285 ET 65 clear on the inside and 285 40 also barely clear on the outside then it would suggest that 305's would fit best with a 55 offset.

Each car is a little different as are tire widths, and tire shapes, so there is a risk of a rub depending on the car and camber and everything else. I have rubbed the undercoat off the inner fenders a couple of times, not enough to cause any problem, noise or even smoke, just enough to take the paint off and polish the metal..
