Default Rear rim width

What is the widest rim we can run on the rear of a 951?(say that 10 times fast).

I've had 18x10's on my last 951, is there any room to go much wider? Obviously the offset will have to be perfect and it also depends on your suspension setup(I'm lowered about an 1") but I'm sure some of you have first hand experiance on this topic. I'm thinking about getting some custom rims made and want to go as wide as possible.

My cars an 89, lowered to TurboCup ride height and max negative camber. I have run the 11" 996 rear wheels with 45mm offset, and 285 tires and I got a slight rub on the sidewalls under heavy compression, as the 11" wheel opens the tire up . I figure with another 5mm offset they would work fine (ie 50 offset). With another 10mm (ie 55) offset I should be able to get 295's in on 11" wheels. I have run 285's on 40 offset and they clear likewise 285's 65 offset clear easily. Of course not all tire widths are the same for the same width number.

I assume this is for a street car and not a track? Under that assumption, let me provide you with some information and a link to a friend of mine on here. He really has a beautiful car, and some wide tires for a 1987 model. But lets just talk stock and not custom made rims so you have an idea. As we know, when you get custom rims you are dealing with a different ball game. For myself, I am currently working with two companies to have custom rims made. And like yourself, my goal is to go as wide as possible with no body modifications too. Anyway...

Here is what he has: He is running Factory Carerra Lightweights (fully forged by BBS) from an '02 996, that don't rub at all and he got them from Wheel Ehnancement. They are 8" and 10" by 18, they are the stock offset. He runs 225/40 and 295/35 PZero Corsa Pirellis. No spacers and the car is so low it won't clear a beer can laying on it's side. The car is lowered about 2.75" lower in the front and 2.5" rear. He does run full coil overs with no torsion bars and 550# frt and 700# rear springs. He did roll the fenders too. So you can see that he is running pretty wide tires in the back with zero issues. I hope this helped you a bit, at least knowing that some off the shelf can get pretty wide, let alone going with something custom made from CCW, Fikse, etc. If I get more info on the custom rims I'm looking at, I'll post it here too.

Cheers

Any stock Porsche wheel of 10" 65 offset will fit without difficult. 10" 65 is a popular wheel for the stock clubracers as wheel width is limited to 1" over stock which is 10" max. I run the 993 hollow spokes and the Carrera lightweights, amongst others. 11's although not legal for clubracing can be fitted.

I have a racing buddy who managed to get 305's at the back of his S2, although it did need some help with a baseball bat to "ease" the fenders. My rear width is bone stock with no additional rolling or help.

I know someone who has 295's on 10's on an '89 with no issues. I'd be interested in going up to over this and will make enquiries once the car's back on the road. I can get the Simmons custom made to whatever size/offset and also take to the guards with the baseball or in my case cricket bat. lol.

This may help you and anyone else. It is from the Fikse web site too. It is a wheel fittament data spec sheet. Any company that is going to make you custom wheels, that truly knows what they 're doing, will ask you for all this information and specific data. I would use this sheet, fill it in, and work with whatever wheel company you are going too. I hope this helps you a bit, it did for me. I am working right now with Fiske on coming up with some ideas for my rim/tires options for my street car. My goal is the same as VRSTAGE2, to get the widdest "street" tires on there, no rubbing, and I strongly prefer no body modding too.

pole position: I stand corrected, you are 100% right. The 996 Factory Carrera 5 Spoke rims are indeed made out of cast. Kudos to you.

Thanks Rob. Great link. I've bookmarked that into my Porsche file spec area. Having said that, the guys at Simmons have been doing this for years but I'll run this past them just in case. lol

Glad you appreciated the info. When it comes to wheel fitament, it has to be very technical with measurements, or you chance rubbing or other issues. Trust me Patrick, when all is said and done I will have 295s on the rear "easily" with no issues at all. Now what I'm hoping for, which is why I'm working with two top companies, is to see if it's possible to get 305s in the back, with no issues at all. I want those 305 street tires baby!

Who told you that? I have an 86 too, contact Fikse or CCW they can make you what ever you want, custom widths, offset etc.

RolexNJ, my goals are just like yours. I want the widest possible rim, it sounds like 11" will fit. Please let me know if you end up fitting 305's! I'll be happy with 285's on a 18x11 wheel(I like the streched look).

Thanks guys keep the good info comming.

I'm with you Rob on the over 295's. I will watch with anticipation on your findings. I think that there are going be quite a few people needing maximum width for their cars this year. As evidenced by Paul's first Dyno runs in the U.K.
Amazing under those conditions!
P.S. Any approx. cost on the Fikse's?

I used to have either 10.5 or 11" CCW's on my '86 when it was early offset.
They were 17x9.5" fronts so I have to say the rears were 10.5.

18lbs per wheel, $2000 for a custom set. But I think prices have gone up.

On 87+ Most extreme fitment-Front 18x9 et52mm -Rear 18x11 et65mm

On an '86; Most extreme fitment -Front 18x9 et 52mm one inch spacers. Rear 18x11 et45mm 1/4 spacer to no spacer- depends on car.
18x10 et 40mm fits nicely with no spacer on the rear with 265/35/18 to 285/30/18 tire.
With 18x11 et 45mm wheels you will need to reverse the top shock tower bolt.

Let me clarify... there aren't any reasonably priced rims that fit the '86 that are not only wide, but nice looking rims. I can't stand the idea of running a spacer. Discount Tire doesn't have anything, at all, that will fit the '86. Tire Rack has the "twist" or "turbo" rims, which I like, but they're 17x7.5 front and 17x9 rear. I was hoping to stuff a wider 18"...
