I'm looking for ideas for when I rebuild the engine. Does anyone have some engine pistures that they could post?

I think just cleaning the engine up good does a lot for it, as well as refinishing all the heat shields and such. Here is the progress of my engine as of right now, I am waiting for the cam tower, intake, and a few other items to come back from the powdercoater. The entire build from the start is documented here (56k beware): http://www.kcws.org/index.php?showtopic=1336

No, 2000 degree ceramic coating from a local shop. Probably just the thick paint kind of stuff anyway

Round 2 will have Swain or Calico coatings instead of the cheaper stuff.

Since you didn't clarify as to what, I thought I would throw the whole thing at cha. Here is my old engine. Some food for thought? The Doc has a "sweet", nice, clean, new looking engine too. And so does theedge!

I had some headers and a crossover pipe done at swain for $225...not a bad price. The quality is incredible.

Haha, so how are you going to outdo your old engine?

Thats not a bad price at all. Ive heard good things about Calico Coatings from Chris White, so I might use them as well.

Have you ever used any of the other Swain coatings, the ones for heatshields and stuff?

We haven't used them for the heatshields, but do ceramic coat the hot housings on our 996TT turbos once we get up 700+hp. For my current engine, I am using 1200 degree high temp aluminum paint for all the heat shields. They aren't as critical as keeping the heat in as with the headers/crossover pipes, etc.

Interesting. I wasnt so much aiming for better shielding, just so the heatshields dont look like crap with the paint chipping

God only knows. But Chris knows I am all about bling for sure, so we will figure something out. I will be the regning Champ again, I hope?

Brian: I don't know anything about Calico, so ask Chris. But I do know a good amount about Jet Hot, which is excellent. I had a long conversation with a tech a few weeks ago regarding coatings for the hotside of a turbo and headers too. Here is a link where they did a test and showed the benefits of using their coating system. So there is empircal evidence to support that it is beneficial, as it would be too for the hotside.

But what Doc said is on the money here, I couldn't agree with him more.
